And when Grandma was busy, she left crazy Uncle Norman in charge, or Cousin Betty or Auntie Gladys. What freedom we could finally ex- perience at MBI, leaving the watchful eyes of the family behind . . . the thrill of independence!! Who were we kidding? To leave be- hind twenty pairs of watchful family eyes only to exchange them for four hundred faculty eyes .... You know the ones I mean. The ones that burn in your back dur- ing quizzes, that follow you from class to class, the eyes that cut like hot knives through cold butter when you don't get that paper turned in on time, the eyes that check your mischief in chapel, your progress in the gym and your nervousness before the camera in homiletics. If there is any comfort to be gleaned, it is in the sure and certain knowledge that behind these probing eyes is a collective faculty heart as wise as mother's, as loving as Grandmoth- er's and as kind and crazy as Uncle Norman's. For what we left behind were eyes and hearts big enough to include us, loving enough to tolerate us and courageous enough to care for and understand us. And we found, in kind, the wide and ready eyes and hearts we can neither forget nor re- pay. The eyes and hearts of the faculty of MBI. Thank you MBI faculty. You will al- ways be a part of us because we have been a part of you, in your hearty, lov- ing care. The compassionate eyes! Henry Asega
