Exiled Soviet prisoner, Georgi Vins, spoke to students during a chapel session which was extended for a question and answer period. The evangelical leader was released in April 1979 from the Soviet Union. Georgi Vins brought first hand knowledge of persecution behind the iron curtain. Vins gave an accurate account without speaking bitterly of the people who had persecuted him. We witnessed the result of his trials- spiritual serenity and authority. lt was exciting to hear about young people who were so dedicated to their faith that they held meetings in spite of persecution, said one student after hearing Natasha, daughter of Georgi Vins. This eye witness report challenged students to realize anew that God has placed them in a body where if one part suffers, every part suffers with it I Cor. 12:26.

Current Events 'bk -an X UN 1'- N. 7 Shaeffer Films In the fall of 1979 Francis Shaeffer and his film seminar, Whatever Happened to the Human Rat-e'? , came to Chicago. Many Moody students were privileged to hear Dr. Schaeffer, Dr. Koops, Dr. Jefferson and others speak on abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia. While speaking on infanticide Dr. Koops gave an interesting illustration. He said that he asked one woman what was the worst thing that had ever happened to her. She said, Having a mentally retarded son. Then he asked her what was the best thing that ever happened to her. Her answer was, Having a mentally retarded son. The seminar was a little hard for some to understand at times, yet there was such a need for it. Too many Christians are blind to what is happen- ing in their world today. Lutzer Installed Erwin Lutzer grew up in the farmlands of Canada where he was surrounded by his five older brothers and sisters. A common pastime for him was reciting Scripture as he plowed those golden fields. This was a logical preparation for the ministry which Mr. Lutzer now plays a paramount role in. Lutzer was installed as pastor of Moody Memorial Church on January 20th. It was an eventful service with Dr. George Sweeting, president of Moody Bible Institute, setting forth the charge to the congregation, In addition, Dr. John Walvoord, president of Dallas Theological Seminary was also on hand to put forth the charge to the pastor. Mr. Lutzer concluded the service by stating some of his proposals for the future of Moody Church. The church is in for a fruitful and beneficial ministry with Erwin Lutzer as pastor.

Two years ago he was in exile, a muted voice as far as the Christian world was concerned. Today he is the spiritual grandfather of the greatest resurgence of Islamic pride since the heydays of the Ottoman Empire. A man of great inner depth and will, the Ayatullah Ruhollah Khomeini in the course of a year has managed to: ll overthrow one of the most powerful rulers in the Mideast, 25 start a worldwide awakening among Islamic people, encouraging them to explore and obey the Koran and the Hadiths lApostolic Traditionsl, Jil hold the most powerful nation in the free world at hay and, 41 convince Time magazine that he and not the Pope. nor a woman Prime Minister had done the most to affect world events within the past year. All this from a man 79 years old. whose most powerful asset is his personality and drive. A fitting reminder to Christians everywhere that the Lord still uses scourges to awake His sleeping church and rouse it to action. They Affect Us
