The Pope Arrives As soon as we arrived at school after the summer, we heard of the Pope's impending visit to Chicago. The big news for the next two months was the Pope's visit. The newscasts and news articles discussing the Pope's tour of the U.S. bombarded the public. As his visit approached, the media began informing people of the various public appearances he would be making. The papers even mapped out the routes he was to take. The week of his visit was during MBI's missionary conference, and he was scheduled to pass by our school on one of those nights. Until the hour of his arrival I was not sure I would try to catch a glimpse of this famous man. But when the time came, I was to be found waiting among the rest of the students for a look at the Polish Pope. He finally arrived, tucked away in a black limousine. All I saw was his figure lighted up. Later in my room while reflecting upon the event, I experienced a letdown. For weeks his visit had been built up. Catholics and non-Catholics had looked forward to this historic event. Then, in a matter of hours, the Pope was gone leaving the people with nothing of eternal permanence. All that was left was the memory of his visit, or the touch of his hand to those who got close enough to him. He left no real hope. I Peter 1:24525 tells us that the leaders of this world will pass away, but the word of God will stand forever. Men cannot give us the hope we long for. The only real hope is in Christ Jesus.

Current Events 'bk -an X UN 1'- N. 7 Shaeffer Films In the fall of 1979 Francis Shaeffer and his film seminar, Whatever Happened to the Human Rat-e'? , came to Chicago. Many Moody students were privileged to hear Dr. Schaeffer, Dr. Koops, Dr. Jefferson and others speak on abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia. While speaking on infanticide Dr. Koops gave an interesting illustration. He said that he asked one woman what was the worst thing that had ever happened to her. She said, Having a mentally retarded son. Then he asked her what was the best thing that ever happened to her. Her answer was, Having a mentally retarded son. The seminar was a little hard for some to understand at times, yet there was such a need for it. Too many Christians are blind to what is happen- ing in their world today. Lutzer Installed Erwin Lutzer grew up in the farmlands of Canada where he was surrounded by his five older brothers and sisters. A common pastime for him was reciting Scripture as he plowed those golden fields. This was a logical preparation for the ministry which Mr. Lutzer now plays a paramount role in. Lutzer was installed as pastor of Moody Memorial Church on January 20th. It was an eventful service with Dr. George Sweeting, president of Moody Bible Institute, setting forth the charge to the congregation, In addition, Dr. John Walvoord, president of Dallas Theological Seminary was also on hand to put forth the charge to the pastor. Mr. Lutzer concluded the service by stating some of his proposals for the future of Moody Church. The church is in for a fruitful and beneficial ministry with Erwin Lutzer as pastor.
