“Be thou an exdmples™, Unesesatcmtuc words of encouragement written by the Apostle Paul to Timothy, who was a young leader in the early Christian church. The idea expressed by the Greek word translated “example’”’ means ‘‘a figure formed bya blow” in order to make an exact impression. ‘Techn1- cally, it refers to a pattern, in conformity to which a thing must be made. In the ethical sense it refers to that which should be imi- tated. Christian leaders are the patterns for Christian living that people consciously and A. FRANKLIN BROMAN Superintendent of Men unconsciously adopt. The teachings of our Lord are interpreted by the lives of those who profess to serve Him. Students in training for Christian serv- ice are designing those patterns day by day, which become more firmly fixed as time goes on. I appeal to you that you fashion the de- sign carefully and prayerfully so that our Lord will be seen in your service and leadership. 12

You who are this year’s gradu- ates have been with us long enough for us to learn to love you, and now you are leaving us. We shall miss you, but we would not hold you here, for your purpose in coming was to prepare to leave — for the places of service to which you might be called. We bid you God’s speed as you turn your faces toward those various fields. Registrar and Secretary of Faculty As you go may you be re- minded that there is one task to which you are each committed alike —that of presenting to a needy world another translation of the Bible, a translation of the Word you have been studying into terms of every day living, that those who read may see a steadfast and faithful, consis- tent and true, vital, victorious life, and seeing it, recognize the Author, by whose love you are constrained.
