Moody’s aspiration for his Bible students in the words of St. Paul found in Philippians 2:15 — ‘That ye may become blameless and sincere, the sons of God, unblamable, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom shine yeas lights in the world.” This volume is a book of friendship, of Christian friend- ship. Here are to be seen names and faces of individuals who have by faith been brought into relationship to God and to each other. On the basis of this relationship, there has been during these two or three years of school life a growing, and we are convinced, an enduring fellowship. On behalf of the official family, we greet each one of our students, who in this educational year has become a graduate. In a world ablaze with hatred, you graduates, having been brought ‘to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge,” are sent forth to manifest Christian fellowship to the degree that the unbelieving must say, “Behold, how they love one another!” Wik . CHRISTIANSEN Vice-President SRREE EH ff footage i Bs a a i EEN) GEE (NESERI| ET SEE NRE (i Ease SBSs SiISke BSek e3=3)) |E U CROWELL HALL The passing of Mr. Henry P. Crowell during this educational year brought the Institute the greatest loss since the death of Dr. James M. Gray, ten years ago. While Mr. Crowell was not so well known to the student body as other administrative officers, yet his interest in the students was just as deep, for his life was intimately identified with the school for forty years and more. Luther has an interesting translation of a familtar phrase. The Authorized Version says, “Let your modera- “tion be known to all men.” Luther says, “your yieldedness.” Let it be evident to all men that your life is actually and entirely yielded to Christ. This can be said of Mr. Crowell. His yieldedness was known to all who knew him. Mr. Crowell's life was rich and full. In the way he carried his nearly ninety years he gave evidence of the fact that age is not a matter of years, but of spirit. Some men are older at thirty-nine than he was at eighty-nine. Old men look back and reminisce. He looked ahead, and ventured. Not many weeks before his passing the Executive Committee discussed the possibility of taking up a new type of work. Someone remarked that if this were done we would be pioneers in the field. Mr. Crowell at once responded, ° ‘It is thrilling to pioneer. Here was a man nearly ninety years of age, still thinking 1 in terms of adventuring for Christ! . A proper way to memorialize Henry P. Crowell would be for each one of us left in this earthly scene a little longer to determine by. the grace of God that our lives shall 1 In larger measure give evidence of yieldedness to Christ and of the desire to adventure for Christ. Our thoughts drift back to the days we first considered entering the Institute and how we wondered at such a possibility. Then one day we arrived! Our first days were filled with thrills and surprises. As the days passed by it began to seem like our second home! We made new friends ... bosom pals, whom we shall never forget, though years and miles shall separate us from each other. The class of December, 1944, organized, and we saw Our names posted as members of that class. What a thrill! “Baby” Juniors... Juniors... and we made it... Seniors at last! Then after a busy term we marched in our caps and gowns to receive our much-longed-for diploma. God had an- swered our prayers and those of many relatives and friends. It seemed our stay was so short, but we know that as we walk down “memory lane” there will be many fond recollections which will make us laugh, sigh, or even cry as we recall how we were broken, molded and polished for our tasks somewhere in this great world. And now as in the words of our motto, ‘In Thy Name We Go,” we know our Heavenly Father watches over us. eke Lacy Fall, Class President 19 ——TDecembenr 1944 20 NORMA G. L. Moody started his Sunday School Class in order that the urchins of the Chicago streets might hear the gospel which had made such a wonder- ful change in his life. Little did he dream that some day a great Institute such as the one from which we are graduating would be standing in his memory. It was the desire to be able to tell others the gospel story that brought us to the Moody Bible Institute. Our hopes have been fulfilled. Our instruc- tors have worked patiently with us, for which we are very grateful. We shall always uphold this school before the throne of grace, praying that God will keep it the great training center that it has been to us. The practical Christian work which we have had here has equipped us to meet almost any problem that might confront us in our life's work of winning souls to our Lord. Our Lord hath commissioned us, ‘Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. As we, the class of April, 1945, go forth, it is our desire to serve our Lord in whatever capacity He would have us serve. Remembering ‘He that winneth souls is wise’... “And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; And they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever’... also, our Lord's promise, “Lo | am with you alway, even unto the end of the world,” we leave this great milestone of our life to press on “that they may hear’ to the ends of the earth. a tee Goku Wilkens, class president 27 —— April 1945 BERT J. Nites phugust (945 As we look back upon precious years spent at the Moody Bible Institute, the most valuable lessons we learned are those spiritual lessons taught by the Lord Himself. “Most of us came to the Institute directly from high school and through the efforts of our faithful instructors, we began to realize our great responsi- bilities. We felt the demand of a sin-cursed world needing men and women of God! Throughout our lives we have often wondered at the trials we faced. But as we look back, we see those all-inspiring words, ‘‘called according to His purpose.’’ In viewing the days ahead, we expect hard battles. Again we are strengthened in the inner man when we say with full assurance, “called according to His purpose.” We feel highly privileged to be graduated in days such as these. The ranks here have thinned, many of our men having been called into battle. Yet, it has pleased God to permit us to obtain further training for Chrisitan service. The Lord has graciously given the members of our class numerous talents. May He enable us to use these in fulfilling the purpose whereunto we were called. We leave our beloved school being confident that He which hath begun a good work in us will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. ... William TWWloon, Class President 39 on o Ae oe @ .. Among the students in this school are rich and poor, young and old, dark and light, babes in Christ, and those who have spent years in devoted service to Him. January 8— We laid aside our traditional dignity and helped “Rec’’ club sprout the first real social event of the new term! We were really ‘tmixed” up at the ‘“MASON-DIXON MIXER.” January 13 —, The skating party which ‘‘Rec’’ Club had planned for us in Lincoln Park was called off .... no ice! (Perhaps it saved many an un- conventional position. . . } January 22— The SALVATION ARMY Territorial Staff Band favored us with an excollent musical program. Recreation Club hit another high mark! February 12— The EUREKA JUBILEE SINGERS presented an inspiring program which we'll never forget! After that rousing pep meeting last Saturday afternoon in anticipation of SPORT NIGHT what else could we do but win? — Well, we were good losers! Deeds of heroism always command our admiration. That which par- ticularly merits recognition is the motive prompting the deeds. Chief among the motives actuating those who have gone forth in the service of their country are; first, defense of the right; second, sympathy for the oppressed; third, loyalty and obedience to God in response to their country’s call to its defense. All of these motives are to be recognized as of high order, commanding our respect. We believe that those of our number who have made the ‘‘supreme sacrifice’ felt called to go forth to defend the cause of righteousness, to help liberate the oppressed, and to render obedience to God in patriotic loyalty to their country’s call. We salute them in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ Who gave Him- self to save the lost. We believe that though now dead their. personal identity abides; and, though separated from their bodies, their indestructi- ble personalities live on.
