H ropnecij As our school days at M.H.S. draw to a close, we shall soon be on our own. Little do we know what our future will be, or into what path Fate will direct us. Last night, as I sat in my room thinking of our approaching graduation, I began to think on what the future holds for each of us. Drifting into a trance, I began to have visions — visions in which I was able to follow the future careers of my classmates. My vision was a sad and exciting one. It was 1961 and I was checking the roll and here’s what I found: NAME AMBITION DESTINATION Douglas Ahrens To be a rich man Died in poorhouse Elsie Boothe Homemaker Homebreaker Robert Bowyer To get married Working in the garage Betty Sue Burkholder School teacher Sales girl Emma Jane Coleman Athletic director Referee Billie Jane Davidson Nurse Serving a jail sentence for poi¬ soning a patient. Now we have only recollections, Ahead our future we cannot know. Our class is very small, Our hopes and aims are high. We wish to be successful, As the years go rolling by. We happily view with pride, Our struggles of might and main. For the highest marks in school, Are what we’ve strived to gain. We’ve heard a lot of sentiment, About commencement days. Of life’s great rattle, And parting of the ways. Memories are what we make them, And now as our paths divide. May we remember our old pals, And how we labored side by side. Our teachers have been loyal, Our principal loyal and more. Spurred on by praise and challenge, W e close the school house door. —Dorlee Martin—
