M.H.S. LIFE The school newspaper was started before 1920. lt was pub- lished six or seven times a year under the name of M.H.S. LIFE. ln 1924 the issue became larger and was published four times a year. Now the paper is published under the name of METEOR ORBIT. ACTA The annual yearbook of the Montrose High School is the ACTA. lt holds the passport back into time. It reminds all that school days are happiest and school friends are 1929 M.H.S. Life best . Each year the Senior class inherits the responsibility of publish- ing the yearbook. Each year differs in style, content, and theme. The first yearbook was super- vised by Miss Marion Taylor in 1915. She chose name, ACTA, because its Latin translation means record of the golden deeds . Miss Marion Taylor ALMA MATER A contest was held in 1927 to find a school song. The winner was Beverly Cooley. When it was announced in chapel, the student body and faculty of Montrose heard Beverly C00ley for the first time the Alma Mater. Our Alma mater's praise we sing, our love and homage true. We pledge to her our loyalty, and try our best to do. All that she's taught us through the years we've sat beneath her rule. Those glorious days! Those happy days! Our own Montrose High School. And when we leave her halls of fame, and friends we've chance to meet, We'll still hold in our memories chain those hours to us so sweet. We love each classroom, stair and hall, each desk and window too. Where'er our path of life may call, to her we will be true. Guide ever on the steps of Youth to Faith and Truth and Light, And others will thy dear praise and do with all their might. So shall the coming years proclaim they virtue ne'er grown less- From North to South, from East to West, our dear old M.H.S.

Tradition Over the one hundred and five years of education at Montrose many things have changed: school buildings, teachers, the school system, and students. But amid the changes some ideas have been passed down through the FLAG lt became apparent in 1972 that Montrose needed a school flag. To solve the problem a contest was declared. Many students submitted their ideas, and the decision was narrowed down to three choices. The selection committee picked the design made by Patsy Bledsoe. students. METEORS Around 1955 a contest was held to determine a name for the basketball team. The principal told the faculty that it was necessary to pick a distinguishing name. Faculty member, Jean Donahue, submitted the name 'meteors' because the basketball players were shooting stars . classes. These ideas have now become traditions and have come to symbolize M.H.S. They are traditions of the past and future, traditions that unite alumni and present SCHOOL COLORS It seems that maroon and white have always been the school colors. Even in the 1920's the students were singing 'hail to the maroon and white'. SYMBOL During the beginning years of the ACTA, the cover design was the work of a senior. ln 1940 the Senior class voted to establish an emblem that would identify the senior class with the yearbook. This emblem appeared on the ACTA from 1940 to 1961. i l The issues of M.H.S. Life in 1924 Montrose Symbol
