1945 Girls Softball Team Wrestling was introduced in 1961. It picked up quite well, and now enjoys a long season and a large number of participants. This sport not only lets the team work for a winning season, but also encour- ages individual records. In 1945 a softball team was re-introduced after several years. Interest must have again decreased because in 1971 softball was re- organized. Tennis was first played as a varsity sport in 1967. This just included a boy's team for the first few years. This is one school sport that can still be enjoyed after graduation. The school does not have a tennis court, so Camp Montrose is used for practices and j games. 1963 Golf Team 1963 Wrestling Team Golf is a highly individual sport as well as a team sport. The team has won many matches and titles since it started in 1963. Some players have competed in district and state matches.

It is believed that the first fieldhockey team was organized around 1940. Interest decreased, but in 1972 the team was reorgan- ized. lt took the place of girl's soccer team. 1973 Field Hockey Team Cheerleading was introduced in 1945. Miss Lewis was the sponsor of the five girls. They practiced during eighth period to perfect cheers and chants 1945 Montrose Cheerleaders Records of the baseball team go back to the twenties. Montrose has enjoyed the sport even before this date, so it is probable that the team played prior to the twenties. Up until 1968, baseball was usually played during the autumn. This only allowed four or five games to be played, so it was moved to the spring season when more games could be scheduled. Until the baseball field at the High School was built in 1975, the team played at the diamonds in South Montrose and Fairdale. 1933 Baseball Team

The staff realizes that errors are easy to make and unintentionally some have been printed. Especially throughout the historical section your forbearance with these errors will be appreciated. Some dates that are used for the clubs are approximate and not definite. information is given about some clubs and not for others. This happened due to the misplacement of material. A debating team was organized in the fall of 1935 with Mrs. Freda Blochberger as the advisor. Fifteen seniors practiced twice a week to learn effective debating. The first ll 1937 Band year, the team placed second in the district and fourth in the State contest. The creed of Tri-Hi-Y and Hi-Y is to create, maintain, and extend, throughout the home, school, and community, high standards of Christian character . Hi-Y was founded around 1922 and Tri-Hi-Y the next spring. The Hi-Y was organized by the local YMCA. 1935 Forensic League 1929 M.H.S Life Staff
