MONTREAT-ANDERSON COLLEGE MONTREAT, NC AGAPE 1986 i Montreat. A place where the beauty of the mountains can be seen every- where one looks. A place where quiet moments are treasured and enjoyed. A place where friendships are started and continued until eternity. A place where a person can be themselves and truly be accepted and loved for who they are. Montreat. A very special place indeed. There are many things that make Montreat different than any place on earth. Some say it is the friendly way people make you feel welcome even if they never met you before. Some say it is the quiet serenity that surrounds this special valley. Some say it is be- cause it seems that God dwells here and you can feel His presence every- where you go. Some say that it is the select group of people that come here year after year to enjoy the scenery, to attend classes, to meet old friends, or to just be in a quiet place for a while. Whatever the reason is, there is no doubt that Montreat is a very differ- ent place. Somewhere on campus this year you might have been asked the ques- tion, What is the difference here at Montreat? or What makes Mon- treat different? . If you did answer the question in a semi-normal way, you will probably find your answer in this book somewhere. This is your book. It was made for you. You are in here and your friends are in here also. We want you to enjoy this book to the best of your ability. This is YOUR book. Enjoy and may God bless you and your memories of Montreat. O God. that this building may be a place where fellowship and fun are possible, and where the beauty of the arts may be more fully appreci- ated and enjoyed. These words were spoken by Mr. McKay Belk as he led the congregation of students and Mon- treat citizens in the litany at the dedica- tion of the Belk Campus Center on Oc- tober 24. 1985. The long-awaited Campus Center was dedicated to the glory of God and named after W.H. Belk who played a prominent role in the founding of Montreat-Anderson College in 1916. Dr. Billy Graham gave the main address in which he thanked all the many people involved in plan- ning the center. The Montreat College Choir resounded with Behold. The Tabernacle of God. With the final rib- bon cut. the enter was officially open and students could look forward to en- joying the new bookstore, gameroom. snack-bar. post office, and prayer room. They soon found out what a great difference the Center made in their lives at Montreat. 87 WEEKEND 88 ' . , Cindy Henderson Paula Johnson Pally Pullen Andrea Shawver Christie Revis Wendy Triplett Maid of Honor: Cindy Henderson escorted by Jon Boatwright Homecoming Queen: Christie Revis escorted by Charlie Hutto Camilla Siien Pam Taylor The Greybeard Players 90 Cast — Willie Clark Greg Howard Ben Silverman ... ... .Willie Mangum Al Lewis . .Chris Broaddrick Patient Mark Orten Edie Karen Jesse Registered Nurse . (fed The difference is ... God. There are many differences at Montreat-Ander- son. but no one can deny that God is a major difference. He is everywhere on campus and this is shown to us through His creation. Everywhere we look there are evidences of His love for us: Lake Susan. Lookout Mountain. Flat Creek, the sunsets, the various mountain trails, the snow, the old stone buildings, the ducks, and the loving Christian people. God makes a major difference in the lives of Montreat stu- dents. if they will only choose to notice. 94 V«MX Zlmmgli Mis Creation 95 Zlie Difference Js . ..
