MONTREAT-AND COLLEGE 1983-84 A VoL 11  «■Vyb- JOURNEYS Montreat — A Step In The Right Direction Education is one of the most important steps we make along our brief journey through life. Here at Montreat many of us have experienced a special kind of love, joy, and friendship. We have learned responsibility and have all grown. God put us all in Montreat for a good reason; How could we possibly go wrong? When our lives have been lived, we will be able to look back and see that Montreat was a step in the right direc- tion. Thank you. Dear Lord for Montreat. The dusk's haze has faded it out; All that remains is its glow. The mist seeps in between the far away hills, slowly advancing in my direction. What majesty is seen in the simple things. The gentle glow is leaving now; Thank you. Father, that you don't leave. From one sundown to the next, your glory outnumbers my praise. Yet my tongue shall ever lift You up for the worship of thy name. You are so glorious. Lord, You show me everyday. — John Van Dyke, '84 Quntry Student Life 3 4 Student Life Student Life 5 Student Life 7 8 Student Life Student Life 9 10 Student Life Student Life 11 12 Student Life Student Life 13 14 Student Life Student Life 15 Often your tasks will be many and more than you think you can do. Often the road will be rugged and the hills insurmountable too. But always remember the hills ahead are never as steep as they seem. And with faith in your heart start upward and climb till you reach your dream. For nothing in life that is worthy is ever too hard to achieve. If you have the courage to try it and faith to believe. For faith is a force that is greater than knowledge or power or skill. And many defeats turn to triumph if you trust in God's wisdom and will. For faith is a mover of mountains. There's nothing that God cannot do. So start out today with faith in your heart And climb till your dreams come true. — Helen Steiner Rice 16 Student Life Organizations Concert Choir And General Assembly Singers Mr. Ted Crist — Director 18 Organizations 0 u n c 1 Student Christian Association Above — Honor Council, Michael Warbur- ton (President), Lois Hedges, Laura Prosser, Eric Patterson, Amy Bowlin. The night was clear and they were able to observe several objects through the 12V2 inch reflector telescope. These observations included double star sys- tems, interstellar gas clouds (nebulae) star clusters and even another galaxy, (Andromeda). The next morning, after the sun was up, they used the solar observatory in the Science Building to view a six inch image of the sun which displayed sunspots. Also, the solar spectrum revealed several dark lines in the rainbows of color. These lines are the fingerprints” of the various elements in the sun. The observatory is under the direction of Dr. Burke who also gave a very informative lecture as to how astronomers find objects in the sky using a coordinate system similar to the longitude and latitude and a special universal time. Slides of the various types of telescopes and deep space objects completed the lecture. We all love her deeply. — M. Mullinax Mrs. B. better known throughout Montreat as MOM. She loves her Lord and also her girls very much. MOM has a deep concern for everyone in her dorm. With her cute little laugh, she always bright- ens my day. MOM's gentle, caring spirit has touched the lives of many girls throughout the The 1984 AGAPE is lovingly dedicated to Mrs. Sarah Sal- ly Matthews Bixler. She is most appreciated for her faithful Christian service to Montreat-Anderson College as the Resident Director of Montreat-Anderson Dorm. For nine years this mother of three and grandmother of six has been counselor, nurse, mother, confidant, and friend to over 1,000 girls. Her wit, her love, and her strength have made M-A Hall a home away from home. For All these things, we thank you, and we love you, MOM. years. Statement From The Editor As editor of the yearbook, I would like to take this opportunity to give credit where credit is due. First, I would like to thank Portia White (advisor) for all the help and time she contributed toward this book. We could not have done it without her. I also think a bit of gratitude should go to Richard White for putting up with all our interruptions. Secondly, without the advise, encouragement, and help from Mrs. A it would have been impossible to meet the deadlines. Mrs. A is best known as our all-around helper and the final word. Thirdly, I had a great staff. Everyone worked so hard to make this yearbook the best ever. Because of their experience, I relied on Amy Pound, Susan Beagles, and Kathy Sproles more than everyone else and they didn't let me down. The whole staff did a great job. Last, without help from the Lord none of us could have produced this 1984 AGAPE for you. A thanks should go to the following people for their time of need contributions: James Cline, Topher Tomion, Carl Heinemann, Mrs. A' s Student Workers, Mary Castillo, John Van Dyke, and Franc Tamboli. Gregg Thompson Editor 1984 104 Closing
