) i Montreat-Anderson College, Montreat, North Carolina proudly jresent the 5th volume of our parbook ... a pictorial story of our school and students. z REFLECTIONS OF Brotherhood among Mon- treat Anderson students. Everyone at one time or another has needed a friend. Whether for help in our classwork or in times of personal tragedy, a friend will make himself present to provide what- ever assistance is needed. Chosen carefully, a good friend at Montreat shares his every thought, plan, and dream, but most of all his friendship FRIENDSHIP. REFLECTIONS OF .. . The gifts of God and his talents . .. the sunshine, the leaves, the sea, the clouds, the streams and Montreat ... BEAUTY. 6 fWK-otcr an O' 10 REFLECTIONS OF Feelings expressed by others. Life is full of happiness and ha- tred. Within each of us is a wide variety of emotions ranging from the smallest ex- pression of joy to the deepest dislike or prejudice. Through the encouragement provided by achievement and the plea- sures received from caring for someone all show interest in the adventures of life EMOTIONS. n REFLECTIONS OF Special happenings passed down by our Montreat Anderson ancestors. Although times and people change, the customs are annually renewed each year at Montreat Anderson College. These customs, although seeming ridiculous to a select few, have their own distinctness which provides an overall enjoyment to the students . . TRADITIONS. mRamwmmnm um DEDICATION THE REV. B. HOYT EVANS JANUARY 10, 1923-OCTOBER 28, 1977 Part-Time Bible Instructor 1966-67 Trustee of the College Full-Time Bible Instructor 1976-77 Acting Dean of the College 1977 God created the universe and with this He had only just begun ... A very special and loved man, here at Montreat-Anderson College, showed many people how God began in his life and how He would never end because of His eternal promise. This man radiated equal compassion and concern for all students and faculty. His understanding and willingness of wanting others to experience the greatness of God was seen everyday in his smile. He was sincere in his approach to his teaching and his ideas and opinions were strong, yet bendable according to God's will. He made people aware of their surround- ings and he energized the full meaning of life. His own life showed a never ending open heart and mind to all people and an ever present love for God. We would like to thank his wife, Mrs. Martha Evans, as she continues to show her love for this college, which she shared with her husband, and our apprecia- tion for her teaching. It is with gratitude to God, that the 1978 Agage Staff DEDICATES this Yearbook — To a man who had only just begun, The Rev. B. Back Row: Coach Wilhelmi, Matt Connor, Kenny Rosenboro, Bob Lake, Alva Duke, Robert Brinkley, Cary Parris, Willie McCray. COACH'S COMMENTS 1. Freshman James Freshwater was among top 20 in scoring in WNC throughout. 2. Robert Brinkley and Willie 6-9 McCray supplied rebounding power consistently. 3. 1977-78 MONTREAT-ANDERSON CAVALIERS 4. Robert Brinkley, better known as the Bull for his raw power and agressiveness under the boards, here ascends the hoop for a dunk. 5. Sharpshooter Tim Edwards played a key role in several important games this season. 6. No one ever told Willie McCray he was only 6'2 , so he comtinues to jump as someone 6-9 , there you have his nickname. 'Six-nine' shown here edging jump ball from Warren Wilsons's 6-8 center. r We played a few games and after people started to see we could play, we had fans come to watch. We actually jelled as a team. Everyone did their job, whether it was a starting job or support only. A fantastic bunch of guys. 71 3. Six-Nine brought crowds of fans and opponents alike to their feet all season with a collection of net-ripping slam dunks. 4. Left alone on a fast break. Freshwater adds two to the Cavs' victory at Warren Wilson. 1 THREE STARTERS RETURN 1. Ivan Diggs was an asset, both offensively and defensively this year and will be a great leader next season. 2. Bull Brinkley, as he did at vital points throughout the season, dominates the boards for two. 72 CAVS REIGN IN 77-78 1. With Elbow and arm above the rim, Brinkley slaps back a shot, one of his many blocked shots for the year. 2. Gary Parris, a sophmore starter, was a very important ingredi- ent in both the offense and defense. As with Duke, Edwards and Brinkley he will be missed much next year. 3. James Freshwater, starting freshman, won the Most Valuable Player Award 77-78. 73 MEN'S TENNIS Allen Meadows Rick Dunkerton Allen Crawford Joe Peoples Barron Scarborough Kurt Staschke Cole Wells Don King — Coach 74 WOMEN'S TENNIS Penny Nickel: Coach Bea Burton Kay Farmer Hollis Gunter Anne Kirkpatrick Lisa Lefler Carol Marks Karen Raxter Caroline Shealy Patti Taylor Dorothy Thomas AUTOGRAPHS AUTOGRAPHS AUTOGRAPHS AUTOGRAPHS 80 VOLLEYBALL Arlene Burns Sue Daugherty Hollis Gunter Gigi Henderson Anne Kirkpatrick Carol Marks Caroline Shealey Linda Torrence Lee Anne Williams Karen Williams Carrie Wolfenden Penny Nickel — Coach I i  r- w f f L ■n ■ ' i 3 Nancy King H O M E C O M I N G Carrie Wolfenden Diane Wadsworth Homecoming Queen Ree Vereen Wanda Brooks Debbie Schafer 82 Jeannie James Arlene Burns Tricia Watson Maid of Honor Karen Young Bonne Redman Donna Siler 84 Homecoming '71 was a big success.
