There is a quiet- ness here. There are places where I can go to think, or to concen- trate. Silence moves the mind to thought, and thought brings about decision, and decision results in action.

I find that being on my own is an oppor- tunity to come closer to my family: many thoughts are written to me which perhaps would not have been spoken. But the exciting discovery is in finding that my thoughts and ideas are shared by those around me. Thus, in being away from home, I experience new depths in friendship.

Gaither Hall be- comes the nucleus of my academic world. I find in it the silence of a test or the excite- ment of a class dis- cussion. It is a col- lege of books, maps, language tapes, lit- mus paper, micro- scopes, and an open hymnbook in chapel. I come and go, but the building is always a reminder that my purpose in college is to learn.
