JL ma How dear to our hearts tvill the memory be of the days we have spent in thy care, When within thy dear halls we have lingered awhile All thy gifts and thy blessings to share. Then, to thee, Alma Mater, we'll ever be true, Though the coming years scatter us far; And the ideals you taught us will ever be bright Shining out as our life's guiding star. So the memory of thee will ever remain. While we think of each dear hallowed scene; And the bonds of true loyalty, blest through the years. Our affections will ever keep green. on treat When Roosevelt the First held sway From Plymouth Rock to Frisco Bay, When autos all were cranked by hand And fears of panic swept the land. Where Swannanoa’s waters rise In vales like unto Paradise, Our fathers here began to raise Their notes of Calvinistic praise. Like Abraham, they dwelt in tents Till more substantial tenements Could be constructed on these slopes, Symbolic of securer hopes. For long the old Montreat Hotel Had served its generation well, Affording shelter from the storm And rest for all the travel worn. The Alba, now, in proper white Rose on an advantageous site Above the Lake, well fit to be A house of hospitality. A meeting hall, with roof of tin, Shut out the rain but not the din And frequent speakers of renown Stood helpless as the floods came down.
