Text from Pages 1 - 114 of the 1958 volume:

Presented by the SUN DIAL STAFF MONTREAT COLLEGE Montreat, North Carolina by Mrs. A. C. Holt The harps of God! How wonderjul the sound, The melodies, that in those strings abound! Only God's finger can command the tone, And we must needs be taught by Him alone. The basic note of all, be sure, is “Love”; Then follow “Joy”, and “Peace”. The angels mov Our hands across the strings at His behest. He only knows the songs that suit us best, The strings on which each one must ever play, And bids us strike the “Patience” string today; Tomorrow “Gentleness” will be the note He teaches us, and so we learn by rote The heavenly scale. Like children, practicing. We often say “I Cant” and will not sing The songs of life. Discords will then ensue, But God will power each day to us renew. If we from “Meekness” will go on to “Faith”, And thus complete the gamut of His grace. 0, may I practice ivell this scale of mine! Sing, sing, my harp, with harmonies Divine! (Revelation 15:2; Galatians 5:22-23;) All our lives “sing” either discordantly or har- moniously. If this heavenly scale is the basis for our life’s music, there will be harmony in our lives, and wherever we go; for this is God’s scale for our SONG OF LIFE . . . Our shining example of the Song of Life in perfect harmony with God and his fellow man . . . always singing his Song of Life so as to inspire us with his Christian love, ecstatic joy, inner peace, long-suffering patience, good-natured gentleness, sincere meekness, and simple faith . . . everyone’s friend through his amiable kind-heartedness. ... To him who holds our genuine respect, our deepest admiration, and our ardent devotion, we dedicate the 1958 SUN DIAL . . . TO . . . MR. ALLAN m How dear to our hearts will the memory be Of the days we have spent in thy care, When within thy dear halls we have lingered awhile All thy gifts and thy blessings to share. So the memory of thee will ever remain, While we think of each dear hallowed scene; And the bonds of true loyalty, blest through the years, Our affections will ever keep green. Then, to thee, Alma Mater, we'll ever be true. Though the coming years scatter us far; And the ideals you taught us will ever be bright Shining out as our life's guiding star. We will cherish thy name wherever we roam. And forever thy praises repeat. Hail to thee, Alma Mater, our happiest days Are the days we have spent in Montreal.
