Your 1950 SUN DIAL is a Volume of Growth, designed to stimulate your memory. If one picture on its pages causes you to smile, or sigh, or laugh aloud, it has fulfilled its purpose. The SUN DIAL is a voice of Montreat. It speaks of the happy hours in which Montreat girls grow to a complete life. As we see it. this life is made up of four facets—the Spiritual, the Scholastic, the Social and the Physical. Growth, life—these made up the school year of 1949 50 which is now a memory. Its motto might be “work.” Its battle cry might be “let's have fun!” But these things are of incidental importance. The purpose of this organ- ization is to edit and publish a yearbook which is called the Sun Dial, and a student newspaper which is called the Dialette. The Youth Fellowship Council sponsors all Sings, Prayer Groups, Vespers, and any other religious programs for the School. The purpose of the Board is not only to foster the development of athletic- ability but also of good sportsmanship and of fellowship between the girls. All students are members of the Athletic Association and upon arrival become members of one of the four tribes which compete against each other in the seasonal sports. To become a “Board Girl” is a great honor, for these girls arc chosen not only for their skill in sports but also for their ability to live up to the ideals of the Board—good conduct, sportsmanship, and fellowship—in every sense.
