It was large and white and rambling, And within its loving walls Were wrapped old voices, old friends Who haunted all the halls. Here we all fined up In hopes of letters marked Free'' Or perhaps a chance package slip— You're sure it's not for me?” Many and many are the limes Old Alba almost fell When 400 stormed the stairway To beat the hostess' bell! .liter meals were over Came the rush to see Miss H ade II here you stood in line so long Hopes of permission would all fade. Down on the very front hall H as Miss Ellis's abode Where our beloved housemother Graded papers, doctored, or sewed. Mrs. Henderson was her suite mate And never ceased to amaze us With her knack of having tools For whatever might faze us. Mrs. Tanning, the dietitian. With her love of making pies Kept the big kitchen humming Sometimes to our surprise. Miss Lord and Miss Watkins, too. Were Albanians from way back. They were brave to face the noises Which the Alba seemed never to lack. HI bet when the last day comes And we meet at the Golden Gate. St. Peter’ll say. The Alba? I'm sorry you're too late. You see when we gathered its ashes And rebuilt it once more, So many folks wanted in We finally had to close the door. Hut if no other place will suit you. li e'll take off the lock And enlarge the whole dorm Till it takes in an entire block. There are only a few changes, Pianos are out of commission You'll have to practice on harps Hut don't use them without permission! So when all the Montreat Girls Have gone clamoring through I'll propose this same toast— To the Alba—we all loved you! —Barbara Stephenson
