The candidates were the six top subscription salesmen — the three top boys and tliree top girls. The other candidates were Betty Outcalt, Lesley Stoltz, Alex Mahomey, and Cliff Flanagan. Pictured are Tom Winger, the winner, who submitted the name THE SPARTAN receiving his free annual from Paul- ine O ' Hem, Editor and Ron Routledge, Co-Editor. Winger Wins With the change of school name, team name, and school colors, it was thought that it would be proper to pick a different name for the annual. A contest was held for students who purchased an annual to suggest names for the yearbook, the prize being a free year- book. Another group of experim enters are those found probing for tiny, microscopic amoebas in biology class. In this picture of our new teachers, Miss Bowman, is busily teaching some of the bright (?) students of M.C.H.S. to t ' pe. She is so thorough in her teaching that these students will probably see a s d f j k 1 ; in their dreams. On tlie bulletin board back of Miss Rice, one can see some of the work that has been accomplished by tlie high school and otlier art classes. When one hears a whistle resounding loudly through the halls he instantly knows that Mrs. Knote has a group of girls mnning through their physical paces in the gym. Usually, while Mrs. Knote is getting the girls in shape the whole building knows it. MR. WAYNE HAYES Superintendent; School Board Member; Central Nor- mal, Ball State; M.S., Indiana University MR. A. F. ALLEN Principal; M.S., Central College; Purdue Uni- versity. 10 Hello, Superintendent ' s office, is the most used phrase of Mrs. Rex Black, secretary to our superintendent, Mr. Hays. Mrs. Black has served in this position for four years. Our handy woman at MCHS is Betty E. Grove, secretary to our principal, Mr. Allen. Miss Grove has a very busy job answering the telephone, giving out aspirins, making announcements, writing passes and absent slips to mention a few of her various duties. We have acquired eleven new teachers this year. Four of them, Mrs. Elinor Barber, Mr. Paul Hammel, Mr. Jay Beaver, and Mr. Michael Drayer, came to us from Roll due to the consolidation of M.H.S. with R.H.S. The other seven new teachers are new to all of us; they are Miss Donna Bowman, Mrs. Sylvia Kelley, Miss Linda Stewart and Mr. Wil- liam Nieman, all in their first year of teaching; and Mr. John Neff, Mr. Bert Richman and Mr. James Barley. We have also added to the number of classrooms. The library and cafeteria were divided in half to make two new classrooms. Mrs. Barber has her English classes in the north- east end of what was the cafeteria and Miss Bowman has her typing classes in the north- east end of what was the library. New shelves were installed across the new wall of the library for books. Students now eat on new fold-up tables in the multi-purpose room. 11 4..; Btii 01 Mil ion Liai s I ediKT-tioii Ml ! Sponsored by LEDBETTER ' S FOODLINER 61 Roll ' s Senior and Junior Trip Pictures are shown of a few of the places that were visited by tlie Roll Senior and Junior Classes while on their trip. They are tlie Statue of Lib- erty in New York, tlie Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, and tlie Archives Building in Washington, D .C. The Senior and Junior trip was something that was al- ways looked forward to by the students and the teach- ers . The trip was taken every other year in Oc- tober . The trip was packed full of fun and excitement as well as educational ex- periences . While Mr. and Mrs. Meredith are out of toivn, their daughters, Kay and turbulent Judy, are left in charge of Bessie, the Meredith housekeeper. Unexpectedly, Made- line Ross, a disturbingly attractive girl from a nearby city, arrives for a visit. Since Madeline ' s father is one of Mr. Meredith ' s bestcustomers, Kay must make Madeline ' s visit a pleasant one. But both Kay and her chum, Lois Andrews, are uneasy as to how Madeline ' s charms w-ill af- fect their boy friends. Steve and Tom. The high school band, of which Steve is leader and Tom a member, is to give a concert at a neighboring toi Ti the same night. Kay, determined that the boys shall not meet Madeline, refuses to attend the concert, as Lois frames the excuse, by telling Steve that Kay is to have a business interview with a certain Dudley Harvard Smith — a name Lois picks om a book. The boys, as shoivn by the picture above, are openly suspicious. In desperation Kay produces a per- fectly strange man whom she introduces as Mr. Dudley Harvard Smith. When Miss Denny, the high school history teacher, leams thatDudley Harvard Smith is visiting Kay, she discloses the electrifying fact, as sho %-n in the picture at the right, that he is a noted historian and that he has undoubtedly arrived to award Kay a prize for her essay on Americanism. From this point the play is a riot of fun and action. Events seem to prove that the strange man pictured below — who now refused to leave the house — is an escaped patient from a hospital for the insane. Before matters were happily adjusted for everyone, the audience was treated to three acts of constant laughter and hilarious surprise. Roll ' s Junior Play Do You Trust Your Boy Friend? t ■ KAY MEREDITH, youtliful andvivacious, was played by Beth Briles. JUDY MEREDITH, her tempetuous kid sister, was played by Susie Carper.
