Trying to recon- cile Aunty, Mary had written letters telling how rich they were. even though they were of limited means. Wfhen Aunt Emmy decides to visit them, Mary has to fix a scheme to save face. She hires a maid from the employment agency and borrows furnishings from Sylvia, her next door neigh- bor, but the butler is more of a problem. Wlien the Cart: Camilla, Phyllis Herring, Cora, Mary Trant: Vivian, Marjorie Sutton, Stuart, ,lack Pethtelg Speed, Dick Brightg Alex, Don Ely, Sadie, Phyllis Alleng Mrs. Morgan, Carolyn Parkerg joshua, Charles Harterg Mrs. Page, Clara Mae Ellettg Mrs. Brand, ,lanice Willianisg and Michael Morgan, Darrel McC.1mmon. For their play, the class of '51 chose The Tangled Yarn . a comedy in three acts. Camilla, Vivian, and Cora share an apartment in a poor board- ing house. When they are down to their last penny, Alex, a magazine editor, informs them that Camilla has won a S1000 prize offered by his magazine for the mother of the year . Camilla had borrowed a costume from Sadie, another boarder and sent in a l , i HER STEP-H USBAN D first man from the agency turns out to be Limpy Lanni- gan, a crook, Mary decides to have Harvey, whom Aunt Emmy has never seen, pose as the butler. jerry, a quick witted stranger, poses as Mary's husband. Although he is a good four llusher, jerry is no match for Mary and soon has them both in hot water. After Harvey is mistaken for Limpy Lannigan and Baby Willie is handed out the window, Mary is forced to call a halt to her wild plot. Additional comedy and satire is added by Stella, the maid, and Otlicer Shea, a likeable cop. THE TANGLED YARN picture of herself along with a pathetic story of suf- fering and hardship. Desperate for the money, Camilla continues the masquerade until a series of complications force her to confess. Speed Martin, a newspaper reporter, ar- rives to check the storyg Sadie takes her costume backg joshua Page enters and announces himself as Camilla's husband, and another roomer, Mrs. Morrison, de- mands an investigation. The play ends as Camilla falls in love with Alexg Cora, with Speed Matting Vivian wins Stuart Brandg and Sadie recognizes joshua as her long lost husband.
