Wfalter jackson, Herble . He started off slowly but gained momentum as the season progressed. Herble played a good game whether at forward or center, He has another year as a Pacer ahead of him. Another senior, Bob will leave a vacancy to be filled next year. Orves Ramseyer, Professor . This was Orves' first year on the Varsity. He saw most of his action as guard but could play any position. He was awarded the trophy for sportsmanship at the Four-Team Tourney. As he is a senior, he will be greatly missed next year. Charles Wilson, Charlie . Wilson is the little boy of the team. Only 5' Ll , he is a very good ball handler and can move well on defense. As he is a junior, this guard will be back next year. Bob Ford, Googie , student manager. GIRLS' PHYSICAL EDUCATION The girls have physical education the second and third periods under the direction of Mrs. Williains. ........-48 The purpose of girls' physical education is to create interest in sports and to teach fair play. Some of the activities performed by girls taking physical education are tumbling, volley ball, deck tennis, basketball, rope climbing, softball, and various group games. Girls' noon league is sponsored by the physical education classes. In the finals of the girls' noon league tourney the seniors met the sophomores to decide which class was champs. The sophomores were victors of the deciding game Montpelier High School September 30, 1951 Dear Alumni Mem bers, We're off for another gruelling marathon of a school year. The litst few days for the underclassmen were spent in getting the whereabouts of the class- rooms and lockers. Looking at us behind the teachers' desks as we went to our classes were three new teachers and a lot of old standbys. Changing of the rooms caused much commotion, as the music room was moved to Room M on first floor: Mr. Matson's class was assigned the old music room, and his former room became the art room. Living up to the slogan, The work must go on , Miss Albertson organized the Crier Staff and started them writing school news. Un September Ii an assembly program was held by De Costo and Ferrari, during which many people rubbed their eyes and wondered if last night they had had too hard a night. Mr. De Costo played three clarinets at once, two saxaphones, and other combinations that proved very interesting. Miss Ferrari accompanied him on the accordion as well as played the ocarinas with him. On September 27 and 28 everybody was slicked up for the never-tiring cry of, Watch the birdie! Have you guessed it yet! Yes, you're right, the photographer was here snapping pictures. On the night of the ZSth the Annual Staff sponsored the Hoosierettes, who put on a very interesting program. Good-by for now, Tommy Coleman P.S. During September our baseball team played four games, breaking even at two wins and two losses. They defeated Dunkirk 5 to Ai, and Roll 2 to 1, but were defeated by Redkey 6 to 2 and Bern IU to ll. Montpelier High School October 51, 1951 Dear Alumni, The baseball team lost its only game of the month, Monday October 1, to Geneva 6 to 4. On October 5 a balcony meeting was held to open the Annual drive, and that afternoon the all-school convocation was held. The lirst chapel meeting of the year was held on Tuesday, October 9, with Rev. Humerickhouse in charge. Saturday, October S, the band went to Indiana University, where they saw a football game and, at the half, marched and played along with several other bands from this state. Excitement about the basketball team had been aroused since the naming of the team. On Friday, October 12. all energetic people who wanted to be yell leader had their chance, as the try outs were held. On Friday night, October 19, the operetta, Love Goes South , was put on by the Music Department. On Wednesday, October 24. the first class convocation was held. The Seventh Grade put on a play, The Soft-Hearted Ghost . The Teachers' Convention was held Thursday and Friday, October 26 and 2'. Students had a much-needed rest, while the teachers slaved C?J on, That seems to be all the dope for October. So long for now, Tommy Coleman Annual Otiice November 50, 1951 Dear Alumni, The first Student Council Dance was held on November T. Much excite- ment was shown by the Juniors on Thursday, November 8, because of the arrival of their class rings. It seems that some of the boys have lost or mislaid theirs. I wonder Where they are? On November 13 we had our second chapel program with Rev. Bayless in charge. On November 14 we were honored to have a trio from Holland, who played a musical saw, an accordion, and a guitar, and gave many vocal selections. On Friday, November 16, the Freshman Class put on a very interesting convocation, On Wednesday, November 21, after a surprise convocation put on by part of the Freshmen and grades Seven and Eight, we were dismissed the rest of the week for Thanksgiving. The Seniors put on a variety show, Friday, November 30 as their convocation. Loads of luck, Tommy Coleman P.S. Six basketball games were played in November with Lancaster and Fairmont handing us defeats. We were victorious over Warren, Geneva, Petroleum and Dunkirk. il ll ill ifrf QQEEEEQIH, f NE AM XEZJN 1 A x-QQ' Qfir' , ri-'rr A' XX Q55 fi? ri :UP fr . Tl? Ty, TD if ,fd ll D Q. ki-'J p, X r. T. But the real cause is that Christmas is in the air, and everyone is excited or busy practicing on the program. On December 4, we again had chapel with Rev. Bright in charge. On December 7, the traditional yell brick was at stake, and when the yelling had subsided, the Juniors won the yell brick. December 8, the 4-team tourney was again staged at Montpelier. Roll and Montpelier won the afternoon games, and Roll won the final from Montpelier. On December 14, we traveled to Hartford City, but 'twas all in vain. We lost the ball game by a small margin. We thought we would have a white Christmas because of the great amount of snow that descended upon us. Because of weather conditions, we were out of school from December 17 to 19 and were forced to postpone the Ridgeville game to a date in February. We returned to school on Thursday, December 20, in time for one day of classes and a Christmas program on Friday forenoon. We were then dismissed for a vacation until Wednesday, January 2. Merry Christmas, Tommy Coleman Dear Alumni Members, Now that we had ushered in the New Year safely, we were ready to come back to school on Wednesday, january 2. On Tuesday, January 8, we had another chapel program with Rev. Rankin. On Friday, January 11, the Crier staff distributed their bulletin, for which the students had waited eagerly. On January IS, the first semester came to an end, and everybody was busy taking exams. We ended the first semester successfully by defeating Roll and having the Victory Ball returned to Montpelier. On Friday, January 25, the Eighth Grade put on an interesting convocation, a minstrel show in which the whole class took part. On the same night our basketball team defeated a cagey Portland team. On january 50, Chester became the third basketball victim of our team in this month. Well, this is about all I can say for january except that its been a cold month. So long, Tommy Annual Ofiice February IS, 1952 Dear Alumni, On Tuesday night, February 5, another win was added to our string, the victim being Pennville. They were very well presented and also very interesting, On Thursday, February ZS, the sectional is to start at Hartford City. Our sponsors were Miss Rea and Mr. Funderbu rg. 1X'e presented our convocation on March 18. Leading us this year was Dolores Ledbetter with Donald Ford right behind her. The money handler and bookkeeper was Sally Millard, while we took our troubles to Betty Besser and Carl Bantz. For our second journey there were fifty-three travelers. Mary Ann Graves and jack Powell withdrew. Our president was Lyle Towns, vice-president, Carl Bantz, secretary-treasurer, Glenn Goodspeedg and advisers, XVaunita Shiner and Diamond Cook. Our sponsors were Mrs. Nunn and Mr. Brinkerhoff. W'e had a gym party December 7, and our convocation on April lfi. The third journey was more exciting for us forty-eight experienced travelers. XVe had two new ones, Donna Rumbaugh and Melinda Ball from Hartford City. NWC lost Donzella Schuller shortly after the first semester. Leading this year was Virginia Futrell with Lyle Towns only a split second behind. Carl Bantz han- dled the money, and Donna Rumbaugh and Vincent Morris listened to our troubles. During this year we sponsored magazine sales and took turns selling refreshments at the home ball games. For our convocation we presented the play Boomerang on january 26. On April 6 we presented our class play, Her Step Husband , under the supervision of Miss Nelson and Mr. Wilson. XVe put on the junior-Senior banquet for the outgoing Senior Class on May 18. Our theme was Star- dust . XY e had a lot of fun decorating the gym and were proud of it after we were through. The fourth and final journey began on September 4, 1951, with forty-four very anxious travelers. We were unhappy when Martha Ford, Clara Mae Grisell, and Naomi Bennett withdrew. To lead us this year we choose Glenn Goodspeed with Carl Bantz following right behind. The money handler and bookkeeper was Helen Wall and the girls, and boys took their troubles to Martha Ford and Vincent Morris, respectively, Sharon Wright was elected to the Athletic Board. After Martha Ford with- drew, Audrey Risinger took her place. To help raise money for the Annual, we sponsored the Hoosierettes , a radio group made up largely of former M. H. S. musicians. We presented our convocation on November SO. It was a talent show featuring over half the class, For our class flower we chose the white rose. Our class colors are rose and silver. Our motto is Onward Is Our Aim. Our class play, Forever Albert , was presented on May 2. Senior exams were on May 16, and that evening the junior-Senior banquet was held to honor us. Honor day was on May 19. Baccalaureate was on May 1S. and we were graduated on May 22. Our commencement speaker was bl. R. Mitchell. Suddenly there appeared on the screen the up-and-coming dance team of Melinda Ball and Donnie Kesler, who were appearing on the famous TV program, Droop and Drag with johnsons Rag with Maestro Maynard accompanied by fumble- lingered Martha Voght. just as the commercial, advertising Gene King's Southern Rose Filling Station came on, Mr. and Mrs. jerry Burchard, the former joan Futrell, came to see how the Smith twins were, as jerry had taken them up in his airplane the week-end before. just as they came in, Mr. and Mrs. Williiitli Fennig, the former Georgie Russell, and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Carter, the farmer Dorothy Downing, drove up. Georgie told Sally that Mr. and Mrs. Richard love, the former Audrey Risinger, were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bantz, the former Virginia Futrell at Millgrove. Sally said that she had intended to have Sharon XVright at the dinner that evening, but Sharon had gone on her honeymoon to the Gordon and King Honeymoon Hotel, owned by Minnie Gordon and Stella King. She was slightly delayed for her trip because her chauffeur, Rex Bell, was detained by his Hair Grower Manufacturing Company. just then the conversation was interrupted by the appearance on TV of the world famous basketball team, the Sloppy Shooters, with Bob Smith, Dick Hawk, Vincent Morris, jim Luzadder, and Orves Ramseyer, coached by the renowned Glenn Goodspeed. This would be Orves' last season, as he would soon be going to darkest Africa to marry his guide, Black jezabel. The yell leaders for the team are Helen Vfall, Sue Smith, and Waunita Shiner. Then came the commercial with the famous Toni twins, Bonnie and Tommie Coleman. jerry remarked that Martha Shannon, on her trip to Chicago to get supplies for her Boston store in Van Wert, Ohio, had dinner at the Fuller-Pulley Restaurant, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Keith Fuller, the former Betty Murphy, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Pulley, the former Gail Garrett, with Lyle Towns, who was going to Fairbanks, Alaska. Dorothy said that Sharron Townsend had recently married Bill Towne, and they were spending their honeymoon in Roll. Georgie said that she had seen Mr. and Mrs. Dave Pearson, the former Dolores Ledbetter, going into the jim Davis Drive-In, managed by Mrs. Harold Love, the former Martha Teegarden. They were waited on by Sedonna Newman, the best car hop, who would soon go to Washington as a filibusterer. Sally said that jill told her that Mrs. john Cheesman, the former Donna Rumbaugh, her Sunday School teacher, had said that the week-end before, Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Brown, the former Donna Lou Helm, and Mr. and Mrs. jesse Osborne, the former Dorothy Garrison, had visited the Robert Ramseyers' Old-Age Home to see their former sponsors, Miss Albertson and Mr. Morgan. The gathering broke up late that night after a pleasant evening of discussing their old classmates, but not too late to keep Mr. and Mrs. Carter from being given a ticket by the alert trafiic cop, Donnie Ford.
