THE FLIGHT OF THE -'38's The China Clipper tool: oll on its flight around the world in September, 1954, with passengers numbering titty-eight. Martha Chapman was pilot: Walter Moon, co-pilot, Vada Alfrey, mechanic, Francis Hummer and Marie Hiser, radio operators, Miss Morehouse and Mrs. Taylor, stewardesses. Early in the flight a great disaster occurred with the death of our stewardess, Mrs. Taylor. Her duties were then talcen over by Miss Dorothy Mason, and the lirst leg of our f light was completed without further misfortune. We toolc oft on the second part of our flight, having lost six passengers. Diclc Michael was pilotg Margaret McDirmit, co-pilot, Margaret Fishbacl-:, mechanicg Jim Coolc and lVladonna Armstrong, radio operators, Mr. Blair and Miss Morton, steward and stewardess. Vxfe landed to celebrate Vxfashingtons birthday with a convocation on ldebruary 21, alter which we resumed our journey to complete the second leg of our llight. The third part of our flight began with the loss ol six more passengers. Paul Rouse was pilotg Theodore Getz, co-pilotg John Sills, mechanicg Ora Futrell and lxflarie Hiser, radio operators, Mr. Kingsolver and Miss Nelson, steward and stewardess. NVhile on board we gave the Junior play, HA Merry Deathf' Vxfe landed to entertain the seniors on May 14 at the K. of P. Hall. Alter this we tool: to the air again for a lew days, when we arrived at our third re-fueling base. Qur last lap found two new passengers on board: Xvilliam Current and Mervin Uutcalt. Ruth Morgan was pilotg Billie Crawford, co-pilotg lVlargaret Kelley, mechanicg Melvin Diclcason and Margaret Shields, radio operators, Mr. Morgan and Miss Albertson, steward and stewardess. The beginning of the year Found the seniors trying out lor the annual stall. Some succeeded and some not. NVQ received our pictures on November 50. Vtfere we happyl Vxfe presented our play, HHis Qzarlc Cou- sin.H April 29. We began to realize that our flight was nearly over when the juniors began plans lor Junior-Senior banquet, which was held May 20. Honor Day was also on May 20, followed by baccalaureate on May QQ. Xve landed on May 25 lo listen to an excellent address delivered by Dr. William Rainey Bennett, alter which we were presented with a coupon, in the form of a diploma, as a passport into our future lille.
