Harry Evans: agriculture, Agriculture Club, '34g Hi-Y Club, '35, THE LOG OF THE THIRTY-FIVERS XYe began our voyage lightheartedly. ln a short time. we picked up several castaways. Their ship, The Millgrove, had been destroyed by fire, so we very gladly allowed them to come aboard. Even with these newcomers we spent the first year of our voyage in comparative quiet and study under the leadership of: XYilliam l.aw, captain: Erances Lauck, first mate: ,lames Cale. second mateg Christina Cline and Eugene lckes. stewards: and Miss Morehouse and Mr. Arbuckle. our friendly supercargoes. Leaving harbor on the second leg of our cruise. we discovered two stow- aways: Robert Racer, found in a flour barrel, and Ethel Hailey, discovered in the pantry. lYe completed this leg of our cruise rather successfully under the guidance of: Clyde Bennett, captain: Frances l.auck. first mate: .loe Barrett, second mate: Imogene Clements and .lohn Schmidt. stewards: and Miss Morton and Mr. Brumliel. our dignified supercargoes. The latter part of this leg of our cruise was saddened by the fact that Charles Morris was swept overboard and lost to us. About the same time XYilliam l.aw. another greatly beloved passenger was compelled to change ships. l3ill's absence was atoned for. in part. by Richard Twibell's arrival just before the gang plank was taken in for the beginning nf the third part of our journey. Our voyage was rather rough toward the end of this year: what with producing a very successful class play, Mllobgoblin House. and enter- taining the seniors uproariously in a decidedly carnival atmosphere on May lg. All in all we passed through this part uf our cruise rather peacefully under the control ofi -lohn Schmidt. captain: -loe llarrett. first mate: Maxine Berry. second mate: Helen lrwin and Clifford Fchwarzkopf, stewards' and Miss Nelson and Mr. XYagner. our beloved supercargoes. Very much depressed by the death uf Mr, XYagner during the summer calm, we began our last complete gathering. lYe were further grief-stricken at the -iudden death of Mrs. Taylor, our freshman English teacher. XYe re- gained some of our old ioviality upon finding Twill llavis. stowaway. This was the most profitable section of our cruise. llve published a very nice annual, The lndianian for 1035. and produced a successful class play. NYe passed through this section of our vovage rather expectantly under the heavy hand of: Robert lYilliams. captain: lietty Hummel. hrst mate: Max Shannon. second mate: Yirginia llellattv and George Egbert Pugh, stew- arfls: and Miss Albertson and Mr. Morgan, our gallant supercargoes. NVe wish you as much iov. as much peace, as much popularity. and as much success as we have had throughout our voyage on the good ship. The Montpelier. f m ,css rs fXYilliam Spaulding.
