To the Class of 1978 I would like to take this opportunity to extend my apprecia tion to the members of this class for the positive manner m which each of you reacted to the leadership change at the high school this year Many times a change in the principal- ship tends to have an adverse effect on particularly the senior class for many reasons. In your case this was not evident as representatives of your class took an active part in the screen ing process, others made themselves known prior to school opening last fall, and in general the supportive attitude taken by the class has been excellent. Needless to say, the carryover of a similar approach to, as well as a healthy attitude toward change, will be of great bene fit to each and every one of you in the years ahead. Best wishes for happiness and success in future years. Charles B. Johnson Superintendent of Schools As you leave Montpelier High School, I begin. I guess we both expert ence similar feelings of excited anticipation for what the future holds yet a degree of uncertainty for the yet unknown. As I have been amply reas sured by your presence and assistance this year, let me offer my words of reassurance to you. Even though my life at Montpelier High School has to date been brief, I can honestly tell you that you are fortunate, beyond your current awareness, to be graduating from one of Vermont's finest high schools The academic and co-curricular experiences that you have enjoyed here are uniquely excellent. You. with the support of the faculty, school direc tors and a concerned citizenry, have given Montpelier High a sense of pride and achievement unparalleled in my experience as a Vermont edu cator. Take with you those rare gifts of dedication, honesty and compassion that I have so repeatedly witnessed in you, and the world will be blessed by your presence and you will be blessed by your own abilities. Edwin H. Jacobs Principal Students are the most important elements in a school and their habits and reactions quite largely determine its stand- ing. The better schools are those in which there is a con- sciousness on the part of students that they share equal responsibility with the faculty for establishing and maintain- ing good school practices and traditions. Over the past four years many of you were instrumental in establishing good school practices and traditions. You are leaving Montpelier High School imprinted with many fond memories of the Class of 1978 All of you are now faced with the greatest challenge you will ever be faced with. That chal- lenge is to enter the adult world, live a lifetime in it and leave it with the knowledge that once again each of you were responsible for establishing good practices and traditions. Practices and traditions that others will observe and live with which will hopefully continue this country’s great heritage Good luck and my most sincere congratulations to the sen ior class. The class of 1978. George Sulima Assistant Principal 8
