We were especially fortunate this year as not two but four students came to share their year with us, two from Brazil, one from Columbia and one from Chile. Adelia Christina Araujo, from Joao Pessoa, Brazil, Rodolfo, 'Rudi' Scheidemantel, from Brasilia, Brazil, Rodrigo Arango from Bogota, Columbia, and Lucia Cabrero Gomez from Santiago, Chile each became so much a part of us during their all too brief stay in Montpelier as we shared so many and experiences together. They taught us much and gave us so many happy and exciting moments and memories through their friendship We shall never forget those times we had together. Class President Lynn Oberlin did the coronation honors. Queen Paula Ewers VAUDEVlLLE'S MY HOME, the senior play, was wrapped around Fish and Hooker, a two-man conning vaudeville team, who have come to Montpelier, Ohio, in their haste to escape the New York police. Needing money to get to California, the two conmen convince the townspeople that money can be raised to build a new school by using local talent in a vaudeville show. However, complications arise when they secretly plan to sneak off with the money themselves and then Fish falls in love with the farmer's daughter. Involving a cast of 53 players and an eleven piece orchestra, the highly successful musical ran for three nights in April to packed houses. It was the story of Oliver Twist, an orphan sold from the workhouse who runs away from his new master and is befriended by the Artful Dodger and his pickpocket friends. Finding this new life of petty thieving lifting him from the oppressions he had previously known, Oliver eagerly joins the pickpockets only to be captured by the police. At his trial, he is taken in by Mr. Brownlow, who gives Oliver an entirely new life of luxury and love. But the thieves' overlord, Bill Sikes, arranges to have Oliver kidnapped and almost murdered to protect his operation. But the police and Mr. Brownlow move in, Sikes is shot dead, and the pickpockets scattered. Oliver has but one choice, to return to his benefactor and his new life in what turns out to be his own family . . . The final reprise, I'l1 Do Anything. Oliver Twist, played by Ron Moore aa. ' . B , S The girls' reserve basketball team finished its season with a record of 11- 1 overall and 7-1 in the NBL-NWOAL circuit. The team , coached by Joyce Miller, was much improved over those in previous years. The only loss of the season went to Archbold in a close game. Peg Buda was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Kelly Banks rebounds. The MHS track team had a superb season with only injury and illness keeping it from attaining greater success. The Locos recorded nine regular season wins against only one loss, that to Swanton by one point. In addition, the team won its fourth Toledo Blade Relays title, its seventh Ottawa Hills Relays title , and its eighth straight Buckeye Border Conference championship. The Locos were second place finishers to Wauseon in the NBL and NWOAL. At the sectional meet, the Locos won the first place trophy for yet another time but they had to do it without premier weight man Tom Harrington who was sidelined for the final meets with illness. In the districts, Montpelier placed eighth overall, sending Bruce Krill, Jeff Rice, and the mile relay quartet of Bob Wilson, Rice, Krill, and Kent Cook to state, marking the ninth straight appearance for an MHS mile relay team in the state meet. In Columbus, Krill, in the high jump, and Rice , in the 880 , were unable to score, but the mile relay team broke a seven-year MHS mark with a stellar 3:28 . 2 timing in the finals, finishing in second place. Other records set during the year included George Rings' 9158.7 in the two mile and Jeff Rice's 1159.9 in the 880.
