Your retire- ment this year from a career spanning forty years, thirty of them at Montpelier as a teacher and prin- cipal, will leave a large gap in the educational system you have done so much to build and nurture. To those of us who have passed through your classrooms, your guidance through the intricacies of geom etry and mathematics and earlier, chemistry and bookkeeping will remain deeply ingrained in our memories and appreciated in our lives. You never were too busy to extend a greeting or a word of encouragement to any of us in your classes or in the halls of MHS and your presence will be greatly missed, We wish you the best of all possible things in the coming years and we bet you a nickel to a hole in a donut that the future will bring much well-deserved leisure and happiness, -0. -.Nw MIRROR X 'mir-ror! n, 1, a, polished or smooth substance that forms images by reflec tion, 2a, something that gives a true representation. b. an exemplary model 3 whatever reflects or depicts truly. SEASON SPECTACULARQ The MHS Football Season opened on our home field with the Locos playing the powerful Napoleon Wildcats. The Locos kept the Naps score down to one of their lowest of the season. The Locos fumbled away the second game of the season to the Evergreen Vikings. Against Patrick Henry the Lo- cos played a fantastic defensive battle, They took their first victory and had the honor of being the only team to defeat the Patriots during their nine game season. Because it was Homecoming Night the victory was especially triumphant. Against Wauseon the Loco defense played a tight game. The close game offered much excitement for the fans. Although the 10-10 record posted by the 1971-'72 Locomotive basketball team did not reach the goal that the team was trying to achieve, it did show a vast improvement over the records of the previous three years, The best year previous to this was in 1967-68 with a 10-9 record. The players played with great confidence and poise and showed a never-ending amount of hustle, desire, and teamwork, The Locomotive basketball picture will suffer with the loss of five senior members but will be fortunate in having four returning lettermen with an excellent jr, varsity and freshman group to build on. We hope that this year will be the beginning of a very successful basketball program with the future looking very bright for Locomotive basketball, Bryan Hicksville Swanton Napoleon Pettisville Wauseon N. He was the first in seven years to take the blue and white to state and only the fourth in the fourteen year history of MHS Wrestling. Bob was also invited to the national AAU Freestyle Tourna- ment to be held at Ashland College. The 1972 wrestling season was the first winning season for the wrestlers since 1961, They finished the season with six wins and four losses, The Locomotives placed fourth in the BBL Tournament taking six first places and in the NWOAL Tournament the Locos placed third with two first place titles. This year the wrestlers brought home the first sectional trophy in the fourteen year history of wrestling at MHS, There were three firsts, two seconds, and two third places taken by the Locos at sectionals, These seven boys then qualified for districts, making the largest number of wrestlers sent to Districts by Montpelier, Only one of the seven wrestlers from Montpelier qualified from the Districts to go to state. r WRESTLING 1971-72 m.-- Chuck Ron fm- A- ' WNW' Yew-1w: 'M Mark Bo Matt WRESTLING Coach West Senior Dave Miller MATMAIDS Senior Ric Fetters FRONT: D, Martinich, A Adams, J. Montpelier, how- ever, could not get by Fayette in the district finals and the Locos took the runner-up spot, The Locos fielded a young squad with only three seniors: Terry Moore at shortstop, Dan tjlum at first base, and manager Ric Fetters. Thus, next year's team should be able to continue the winning tradi- tion established in MHS baseball, ' in 1, , .,.. .. Fisher, B, Brannan, L, Dilworth, B. Bryce, L, Geese, S, Ely, G, Shoup, I. Rice, M, Priest, F. Wilson, and Coach Delmar Karnes, The team record this year was very successful, winning nine dual matches and losing only two. The team won the Buckeye Border League championship with a four-man score of 539 and took first in the Northern Border League with a six-man score of 505. In their third league, the Locos took third place in NWOAL competition. In state tournament play, Montpelier captured second place in the Toledo Sectional and tied for second in the District tourney at Findlay. A snudden-death playoff determined the second representative to the state meet in Columbus, however, the Locos were edged out by one stroke. Of a possible 128 individual rnatch-play points, the team won 108 and lost only 20 in their eleven meet season. Lee Dilworth and Bob Bryce, the only two graduating seniors on the team, will be sorely missed next season, but a strong group of underclassmen should continue the fine record posted by Locomotive golf teams in recent years. At the turn of the century, the small peasant town ofAnatavka along with the larger Jewish communities, finds itself caught in the center of change and persecution. For the villagers, the hostility of the outside world is a condition of life. Isolated by geography and insulated by tradition, they sense only vaguely the malicious forces that threaten their way of life, Fiddler on the Roof was the first musical ever put together by the students and faculty, of MHS. With a great deal of hard work Mr, Chester Waslowski, stage director, Mrs, Mary Haines, props and make-up, and approximately 150 students put together an excellent production. CHRISTMAS PROGRAM The G, A, A, Christmas program was quite different this year. Some things are best for- gotten, but then again some things are best re- membered. For instance remember the candy free-for-all? Poor Cheryl Adams was the un- fortunate victim of circumstancesg in other words she was the Mistress of Ceremonies who was bom- barded by a barrage of candy, But actually the highlight of the whole program was when the Soul Rock Group, directed by James Cameron, performed their own version of Away in the Manger. The Christmas program was a work of art in its own right. G.A.A. 'LN M3935 X2 fxgalfi 5 si W X760 1971-72 SPORTS FM pi, Zi like AWARDS AND ASSEMBLIES GOVERNMENT DAY W . Government Day 1972 brought together seniors from seven area high schools to take a look into some of the aspects of local, state, and federal governments. The program was, as in the past, divided into a morning session based upon a town meeting with free-questioning and afternoon meetings with resource personnel in selected interest areas. One of the new topics discussed was Women's Liberation, and it provided new insights into the equal opportunities movement. Other topics were leisure time, equal opportunity, family planning, and police enforcement. a as Y S1 9 4 . t sa t r ' 2 X V . Walking into the gym, crossed the famous London Bridge. By making old fashion buildings on one side of the gym and a park PROM on the other, the Jumors created an effective snreet SCCIIC, The main attraction was a fountain which was placed in the center of the gym, The statue in its center was highlighted with a blue light. London just wou1dn't be dis- played correctly without the Pub. This building was located in the northeast corner and refreshments ,Z I --N-....,, were served from the bar and table directly in front of the building. ln all, the decorations this year portrayed London very well. The Fairview dance band pro- vided the entertainment for the evening by playing a number of popular songs. SENIOR FAREWELL THE 1972 GRADUATING CLASS 0F MDNTPELIER HIGH SCHOOL iw.
