IIIICK The men ofthe Deck Force are often called the mainstay of a naval vessel. lt is they who cast ofl' the lines to get the ship underway, drop the anchor, swab the decks, paint and preserve bulkheads and other chores necessary for the func- tioning ofthe ship. On other ships the deck force is necessary, but on an am- phibious ship a deck force is vital. Bringing boats in and out ol' the well deck and getting them to their appoint- ed stations on time are some of the many activities that go on during am- phibious operations. Cargo must be loaded and unloaded ina timely manor. Without the First and Second Divisions on station our primary mission could never be accomplished. 1 I , W 's 'Ns 1
