H DIVISIO In assisting the Captain in getting the ship to and from ports and across the wide ex panses of ocean, our navi- gator and his Quartermasters employ the ancient mariners art. which centers around celestial navigation. This pro- cess uses morning and evening stars. sun lines, the moon, and various planets to fix the position oi' the ship. However, our up-to-date Navigation Department also uses electronic aids, such as radar, the Loran 5y5LeIii qutilizing . ' ' I radio beamsl. and the fathometer. This equipment is constantly worked during inclement weather when visibility is limited. Charts to water ways all over the world are changing constantly, and correcting them is a never ending task for the Quartermasters.
