It is a person with whom you dare to be yourself . C. Raymond Beran 5 Where go the years? But moments fleet, uncertain that swiftly speed and disappear from mortal view? Where go the years? To seek the darkness and to hide within the dust of old hall clocks? Or ride forgotten moon beams to the sky? Phyllis Heidenreich For yesterday is already a dream, And tomorrow is only a vision; But today, well lived, makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. From the Sanskrit 6 Now looking back at all we've had. we let so many dreams just slip through our hands. Why must we wait so long before we see how sad the answers to those questions can be? BOARD OF EDUCATION AND ADMINISTRATION sitting: Martha Johnson, Gerald Briggs, Eugene Nesin, Gerald Seitel standing: Alan Wolkoff, Frederic Obermeyer, James Culligan, Jean Rosenheck 18 Mr. Robert Harding’s first year as principal was a very successful one. He has become a special part of all of us. This page reflects the many expressions we have come to know him by. We have worked with him, learned from him, laughed and cried with him, but most of all we have grown to love him. Thank you. As of this year Mr. Jack Radar has become Assistant Principal of our school, but he has been a part of our lives since the Middle School. When we first saw him we remember the horror of going to 110, but after this year we know him as a friend whom we will long re- member with a smile and love. 19 Elinor Buckman's retirement from the Monticello School system, after almost thirty years of devoted service, leaves behind a legacy much greater than just her professional excellence as Secretary to the principal. This lovely lady has quietly, but with loving charm, served the students and staff of our district with a graciousness that has made all our lives much more pleasant than they might have been. Even on the most hectic days, Mrs. Buckman has always had time to help students and teachers calmly, efficiently, and with a smile and a twinkle. Her good humor is but an expression of the deep compassion she has demonstrated towards all of us. In perhaps her most revealing gesture of all, Mrs. Buckman paid honor to the importance of education, to Dr. Kiley, and to all of us when she personally created an award in honor of Dr. Kiley’s retirement last year. This year, the staff and faculty of Monticello High School have chosen to pay tribute to Mrs. Buckman by means of a similar gesture; they have created a special monetary award to be given in Mrs. Buckman’s name to a deserving senior entering a college secretarial course of study. We all love you, Mrs. Buckman. We will miss you, but we wish you a happy and healthy retirement. Please visit us often! At the beginning of our preparations for the prom, great apprehension coincided with our excitement. The problems we faced made our work that much more dif- ficult. but we believed our goal was impor- tant to reach. Patience was something we all had to learn and we learned it from one another. That’s what made our prom so special. We believed in ourselves and that belief pulled us through. We are no longer the class of '82 but the family of '82. Thank you Monti High for your support and your spirit. You are never given a dream without the ability to make it come true.” Jr. Prom Court: Queen - S. Pizano King - G. Frick 1st runners up - B. Are you tired of watching the same T.V. shows, pitch- ing quarters, playing penny hockey, and chess. Sick of gossiping with the group and trying to get work done unsuccessfully? Are you disappointed that lane isn’t all it's cracked up to be? The only alternatives are guidance, the library, and the hallways? If you answered yes to one or more of the above, we have the answer: just remember what studyhall was like. 68 MaryJane Abbruzzese Ellen Albrecht Jackie Allen Alisa Allowe Janice Bien Maria Bisaccia Danna Bogdan lyrone Bracey Felicia Bonner Fran Boutsis Kathy Brown Jennifer Bulaga Rose Cheng Dwayne Cabrera Dale Cocot Shari Cohen Sherry Clopton Gwen Cox Rosa Cosme Cheryl Crawford busan Croce Sarah Culver Bill Crumley Colleen Cunningham David Cutler Carol Dickman Nieves Dieguez Mansa DiMarzio Carl Ehrets Carmela Doyle Christina Driscoll Howard f-allick Leslie Evans Jody Farquhar Tom Eshelman ' Jodi Hendrickson Doreen Hopper f own Fischler Angela Fischer Debbie Foster Tracy Fraley William Gettel I is.i Glass Anthony Gr if tin Gloria Gulotta Sue Hastings Marc Gitlin Debbie Fasce m m Hi m m Marylou Hopper Steven Hough Katarina Isaacson Sharon Jackson David Kaplan Sean Karp Jessica Katz Mitchell Katz Rhonda Kaufman Michael Kelly Annie Kenjersky Hoang Kroeger Gary Lasher Donna LaVecchia Cindy Levy Sylvia Long Debbie Mahon Frme Low rre Eric Lustgarten Debbie MacAdam Charlie Manna Michelle Manzi Donna Kleveno Karen Price Debbie Profeta Ricky Rauch John Reuss Michael Rossiter Moe Sadler Mitchell Saltzman Helen Santiago Kathy Schaefer Jay Schneider Sally Semomte Sherry Shapley Lisa Skinger Michael Smithem Peter Tango Lori Taggart Karen Strumpf Jeanne Stott 5 Regina Thomaschek Tim Toomey Ir.i Walter Terri Walters John VanFradenburgh Michele Williams Sharon Wearing Suzanne Weinert Linda Williams Tammy Wong Avis Yeomans Randy Williams White Lake Group White Lake Group Robert Rosengard Norb Skalski Senioritis Hits Monticello High School It hits approximately two hundred and fifty High School seniors every year. Prominent physicians across the country have been re- searching this strange disease. It appears mysteriously every September and continues until graduation in June. The symptoms are: lack of motivation, boredom, lowering of averages, increased ab- senteeism. defiant attitudes, and distorted egos. As yet the physicians have not found any conclusive evidence about the cause of this chronic disease. So. if you know someone that has these symptoms, just grin and bear it. Walter ALL STATE - ALL EASTERN One of the biggest high school musical events of the year is the New York State School Music Associations Annual Conference. Each year, outstanding high school students are selected from throughout the state to participate in one of the Conference's performing groups. This year Monticello had five of their outstanding musicians selected to perform at the Conference. Lori Budoff, Melanie Reed, And Ira Walter were all chosen to perform with the All State Mixed Choir, while Angela Rausch, and Kathleen Schaefer were asked to perform with the second All State Women’s Choir. All the participants did a superb job. Every two years, an All Eastern concert is performed by students selected from surrounding states. Monticello sent Ira Walter to represent them in this year’s concert. We congratulate Lori And Angela for being selected to participate in Conference All State for the second year in a row. We also congratulate Kathleen for being selected this year, and Ira for his acceptance into All State and All Eastern Choir. Congratulations to Melanie Reed for being selected this year; we wish her good luck next year, too. 179 CHOIR AREA ALL STATE P. Tango I. Walter L. Budoff B. Bailey M. Roosa M. Tremper M. Reed L. Angela Rausch has served for four years as concert mistress at Monticello High with all the dignity the position demands. Ms. Hooghuis. a graduate from New England Conser- vatory of Music, will soon be training another violinist to be concert mistress. We wish the best of luck to the both of you. 181 Dear Monti Music Department, Here are 21 questions we’ve always wanted to ask: 1) Why do concerts start at 8:01, not 8:00? 2) Why do we always have to perform massive musical chaos at the end of every concert? 3) Why does Mr. Rovitz always say “pooh-pooh-cah-cah? 4) How often does Nuk start? 5) Why does Mr. Hughs start every number “Beat, beat, ready, and . . . ?” 6) Does Mr. Hughes say, “Beat, beat, ready, and . . in concerts too? 7) What's next year’s musical? 8) If I get an “A” on my solo, can I be exempt from the final? 9) Why does everyone call Mr. Banner, Uncle Miltie? 10) How often does Mr. Hughes’ wife dress him? 11) Why Grouse? 12) Why are the best tissues at the bottom? 13) Du bing, du bang, du dong? 14) Why does Mr. Banner's piano say King Arthur’s Court? 15) Why is Choir’s duck fully dressed in a t-shirt, and band's gorilla only in underwear and sneakers? 16) Why doesn't orchestra hear the morning announcements? 17) Why does Mr. Rovitz’ voice crack, and should he take singing lessons to cure it? 18) What ever happened to Idi A-Duck, and who kidnapped him? 19) What's an Idi A-Duck? 20) Are Mr. Hughs, Mr. Banner, And Mr. Rovitz really the three stooges? 21) Will you miss the Monti Musicians of '81 as much as they will miss you? Thank you, Monti Musicians Dear Monti Musicians, Yes, we will. Mon- ticello High School’s Interact Club was once again designated, last year, by Rotary International, the number one club of its kind in the world! Each year, Interact raises near- ly $4,000 for worthy causes through various projects that in- clude the annual Pancake break- fast, the sale of oranges and can- dles for a scholarship, the deliv- ery of carnations on Valentine's Day, and the raising of money for the Thanksgiving and Holiday Drives. Cutler, S. McManus. C. Doyle Interact also visits Crystal Run at Christmas, and works at the Special Olympics, the Rotary Art Show, and at the annual Run-A- Thon, as well as on many other projects. Interact members have fun, too. host exchange students, have parties and picnics, chal- lenge Key Club to a yearly basket- ball game, hit teachers in the face with pies at the Thanksgiving as- sembly, attend our annual District Convention at Kutsher's Hotel, and do what we do best - HAVE A GREAT TIME! Executive Board front: P. Strauss, L. Rausch, T. Taylor, L. Rubin. R. Funston, L. Gordon back: C. Seidler, S. Newman, J. Petrus, M. Rossiter, J. Katz Key Club Key Club is an organization that serves both the school and the community. It has nearly fifty members with Jeff Perl- mutter serving as president. 1980-1981 has been another typically successful year for the Monticello Key Club, with school projects such as Ser- vant Day, Christmas Santa Sales, and Easter Bunny Sales, not to mention dona- tions to Student Council when funds were needed. Out of school, members were constantly on the go, raising money for Special Olympics, the Heart Association, and the Red Cross, as well as visiting local infirmaries and hospitals and establishing the Key Club as an important community service organization. With a fine service record to show, Monticello served as the House Committee at this year’s New York State Key Club Convention held at the Pines Hotel. We can look forward to many more years of faithful service from our dedi- cated Key Club members.
