CJe Aj Craufe 145 Class History - . Xii' M ; our years spent in school, we have lived through’a multitude of experiences, all of which have helped us grow What form of expression could encompass the feelings that exist among members of the class of '74? of writing and song, we wish to bring back some fond memories. , that ultimate experience, taught us to realize that it was possible to exist without Mommy and Daddy. , that didn’t ocjpur until after the trauma of the first day of school. Nobody was so brave that he didn’t „ ,We remember that Rosemary Stefl became the unhappy recipient of a banana which Aggie Toth calmly squished between herjeyesklRosemary never got her back for it.) Marlene Raskin beat up Bobby Mandel because he wouldn’t stop throw ing crayons at her. The fact that she had to go to Mr. Lamberti’s office didn’t dissuade her. She met him after school and beat him up again until he cried. Jennifer Pirich and Patti Papsidero started at an early age, romantically pursuing all of the boys in the Rutherford School. Patti moved to the Cooke School, however, and the gruesome twosome was forced to separate. Later on, they were destined to join together again, only this time they concentrated on a single goal. Robert Rosen. Andy Cohen and Kathy Seitel were forced to break their passionate engagement because Kathy’s tooth fell out. AniJylDrokenhearted, was then compelled to write his first hit, “The Tooth Always Hurts.” Romance honors should go to Marcy and Ronnie whose activities of 8 years included 4' £ hour phone calls, free admission to the movies and the bowling alley for Ronnie, not to mention Marcy’s father picking up “Ronnie and His Bicycle” to spend an exciting day in Monticello. Did it end with the G.O.P. election? Rumor has it that since “your first love is your only love,” they will become the lovable Mr. Mrs. Winarick. It was during grade school that White Lake produced two budding scientists, Lance Geyer and Art Heller, who tried to blow up a balloon with baking soda and a coke bottle. The experiment was so successful that the balloon exploded in their faces. Some say that the shock of failure on the eyes of these young scientists has stunted their minds ever since. White Lake was also the location of that famous 1st grade comedy hit, “The Three Bears.” Jim Lubniewski and Karen Wlodarski played the parts of Mama Bear and Papa Bear, and Nancy Lilley played the part of Little Baby Bear. Janice VanFradenburg was none other than Goldilocks. I At St. Peters, Tom Lorino began his illustrious career as an Italian lover, when he developed a “mad crush on Lori DeSimone. Meanwhile, Toni Lauferswiler and Cindy Thelman were desperately trying to minimize the length of their uniforms. Paula Hanson hnd Cindy Pagan were also trying the same trick at St. Joseph’s Mt. School. The sister did not appreciate the girls’ creativity, however, and the skirts were lengthened considerably. That action prompted the familiar tune, “Girls, You Made the Skirts Too Short!” Back in White Lake, everyone was singing “Lays, Lays, Lays”. It seems that Debbie Reinshagen gave Bill Fries a potato chip with butter and sand on it, telling him it was pepper. Bill ate the whole thing, and replied that it was delicious. 146 Moving on to the third and fourth grades we recall: -the cool kids from Cooke and the retards from Rutherford! -Jim Porter and his greasy kid stuff -how Tybee Duncan got up during show and tell and let everyone in on Anna Holatik’s “hot love” for Ronnie Winarick. -the Rutherford School decree that everyone must go steady. Some of the unlikely couples were Tina Weiss and David Epstein, Rhonda Cohen and Danny Wechsler, Marc Shapot and Jone Siegel, Linda Leshner and Bobby Mandel, and finally, Cindy Weiss and Barry Frishman. -how fingerplucking was the latest rage. The nurse enjoyed it so much she made Ronnie W. and Jimmy B. do it continuously for two hours. -in the Hebrew Day School, strictness was the order of the day. While taking a test, no one. but no one could raise a hand for anything. Paula Lungen took her teacher too much to heart and remained obedient, even though she had to go to the bathroom. The result was, to say the least, embarrasing, especially since Paula was wearing her Brownie uniform at the time. Journeying into the realms of fifth grade, we were all surprised to see Mike Tittman’s amazing resemblance to Alfred E. Newman (AfadMagazine). Some things never change—he still looks like him! In order to avoid listening to the nurse lecture on the merits of eating vegetables at lunch, Jimmy B., Ronnie W., Kathy S., Marcy B., Debbie G., and Andrea T. would simply mush all of that garbage into their milk containers and save some for their straws to spit at each other before the nurse came around. -Jon Farrow showed his love for Betty Van by circulating a petition to beat up Betty the last day of school. All the boys in class signed it. Betty, the brave person she is, made Miss Hamer walk her to the bus on the appointed day. Before we knew it, we were in the sixth grade, and everyone became acquainted with the decrepit Middle School. While we were all struggling with the new environment, a new arrival was able to adjust remarkably fast. Warren Lindredge’s first song, “The Magician”, was about the facilities—you remember the time he turned a radiator into a scatalogical fixture. Seventh grade wasn’t any better. Do you remember. . . -the Kashinsky Brothers (Joe, Tom, and Barry! in the talent show -Bobby M’s desire for Debbie Goldenberg’s potato chip sandwiches -Debbie Perlmutter’s unusual exhilaration with the scooters in gym class -how Ronnie imitated Mr. Schutt during Robert Garsh’s lesson. .Mr. Schutt could be seen chasing Ronnie down the hall throwing chairs and stands at him. When Ronnie finally returned, he was in tears At the end of Home Economics 7, all the of girls could supposedly proclaim themselves A-l chefs. All except Marion Lagerway and Denise Sutherland, who mixed up pancake batter and biscuit batter. They ended up with pancakes that didn’t rise, and biscuits that wouldn’t break even when thrown on the floor. Eighth grade was marked by the arrival of that holy (?) and pious (!) girl from St. Peters. Many of us can recall that fateful day on the third floor when Gigi tossed Marcy around like a potato salad, while singing her since famous ballad, “I’m Gonna Kick Your .. .!” -the $30 I.D. bracelet Arthur Schwartz gave to Marcy which was returned the following day Mr. Lubin was also a new arrival, even though we all tried very hard to convince him that leaching was not his chosen profession. During the course of the year, the honors class (that intellectual group) -mixed up the seats and at Ronnie’s football direction (24-32-hut-hut!) all switched back -all sat backwards -didn’t speak to Mr. Lubin for the whole period. After 15 minutes, he apologized on the grounds that he was sorry for what he did, “whatever it was!” Miss Turner was another of our favorites, with her sneakers and dresses that were torn in the armpits. For awhile there, she really believed that Ronnie was Robert Garsh! The highlight of the year was the way Miss Delena’s “How To Do or Make Speeches” became such a popular attraction, Mrs. Martinez’s entire Spanish class went as far as to skip out in order to watch them. . . Was it fate that joined Miss Delena and Mr. Lanuti together? Who else could love a man whose “ecology trips” were always accompanied by 10 inches of pouring rain? It wasn’t long before we fell under the absolute reign of power of Mr. Kiley and Mr. Harding. Truly the height of our academic career (what academic career?) We remember how. . . ? -Marion Lagerway’s fear of oral reports came to a climax in Mr. Anderson’s social studies class. She fainted while giving her speech. -Bobby M broke his arm while he and Bob Kelz were dancing their “Last Tango in Spanish’’ -the 7th period social studies class gave Joani Davidoff a surprise birthday party -Gigi’s fried rice in Mr. I Ockard’s class had everyone running to the water fountain -Mr. Anderson married Phil Goldstein and Debbie Reinshagen for 45 minutes and blessed them with a house and 3 kids -Miss Effel had clogs in every color and skirts in one length Divided into different sections, half of Mr. Hoose’s class played charades, while the other half spent their time playing jacks in the corner. One day, during “a Lull in the charade playing, Danny W. counted the number of times Mr. Hoose said. Alright during class. The winning total—■—123 times. It was during algebra that Kipp M. developed an uncanny knack for going up to ask a question during a test, and returning to his desk with the answer key, which was then passed around the room. Tenth grade brought with it Mr. Palinscar, who spent his first and his last year teaching social studies to students in Monti High. With each class came its own set of revolutionaries. Gigi O., Ramon 0., and Cathy J., were termed leaders of the 1st period class, while Tom L., and Toni L. were labeled the “terrors” of 8th period. Every day at 3:15, the entire 8th period class would stand up and yawn. Then at 3:25, Toni, Tom and Linda S. would run up and touch the blackboard. When the class wasn’t sleeping, staying after school or being thrown outside in the hall, we discussed thought-provoking questions such as, “What would your mother say if you went home and told her you were becoming a streetwalker?” Ed Levy, in his first solo appearance, came up with an autobiographical ballad, “I Am Woman.” It was an overnight success. This, among other things, prompted Bob Kimmons to follow shortly with “Ed Levy, My Friend.” While playing in gym, Michele M. and her volleyball collaborated on the tune, “Fire on my Mind.” Unfortunately it was a false alarm. Mrs. Bury rewarded her for her efforts and presented her with her own minature fire truck. Who could possibly forget Mr. Graff’s, “You blocks, you stones, you worse than senseless things. -the record for a “break-up” of a party occured at Linda Smith's house when Aggie T. (in her own words) “got carried away with the punch,” and was hospitalized as a result. When Linda announced that the police were coming to investigate, everyone cleared out in 5 seconds (see Guiness Book of World Records). -Sheryl Turick, in her never ending pursuit of fame, hit new heights with her hit record, “Me, my Hodaka, and Bobby Taggert.” All is not easy on the road to notoriety, however, and she received close competition from Greg Iberger and his song, “Mrs. Schmidt, My Honey (for $1).” It was during 11th grade that most of us started to lead mature and otherwise corrupt lives. 149 . (i -The Jr. Prom, “What the World Needs Now,'4 was a great success. The cafeteria was transformi beautiful scenery and art work. Alvaro Rendon and Rhonda Cohen reigned as King and Queen res] ed into :sp«Stive! a maze of ly. -During the same month (December),' Scott Meadow got into the mood of the season when he dressed up in a Santa Claus suit and asked everyone in Mr. Pallaria’s 6th period Chemistry class what they wanted for Christinas. Can you remember: -The time Larry Oestrich jumped out a second story window in order to retrieve his books which were purposely pushed out the window by Greg I. Mr. Druse (in the room below) did not take kindly to Larry ’s flight through air. So he stamped upstairs and let out a lot of air himself. t ' ■ r;. -Mr. Quigley’s handshakes and how he had half of us believing he was Moses -The day Miss Brooks kept reminding everyone not to sit on a broken stool that was in the room. At the end of the J period she sat on it by accident and tumbled onto the floor. Everyone wanted to laugh, ut waggafraid| UNTIL-------Betty O’Bannon couldn’t hold it in any longer. Then everybody cracked up-j-even Miss Brooks (and we knew it must have hurt). -When Ira Fialkoff “threw him (Matthew W) a herring!” B.. • ' We entered our senior year much in the same way we entered all our other years. Marcy B. occupiecOhe seat of G.O.P. All went smoothly, (or so we thought)... On the first day of the fourth period Economic Political Thought class, some seniors finally learned the true meaning of that old Latin phrase, Tempus Fugit (“Time Flies”). Out of nowhere the clock on the wall came crashing to the ground, nearly taking with it Joe Lorino’s head. Of course, everyone went into hysterics. By a stroke of luck (fate?), Mr. Kiley happened to be walking by when the accident occured. He proved to be quite a comedian calmly stating,“I haven’t any time for this.” Other highlights of the year included: -Linda L’s unlicensed adventure into town to buy an engagement cake for Mr. Druse (who at the time had no prospects in sight!) -The day a historic event was recorded—the Girls’ Basketball Team threw Mrs. Burv in the shower -How football on Senior Lane was eliminated early in the year when the same science window was broken twice in the same week -The time Mrs. Alvarez entered the National Teenager Contest in order to liven up an otherwise dead homeroom (She was 4th runner-up and won a scholarship to the college of her choice) -The Senior Play, Rhinoceros. There were more people at the cast party than were at both performances of the play. Who could possibly forget Matt's “first experience” with Roseann Giglio and how Marc S. almost lost his pants without even knowing it. 150 -The class trip to Canada -The time Marcy and Kim stole Miss Koktavy’s hubcaps Halloween night -Joe’s Bar $ Grill—the undefeated team consisted of Watermelon, Grapes, Raisins, Pumpkins, Cherries, Apples, Bananas and Oranges Remember how. . . -Every time Beatrice Wallace played basketball without her glasses, she tried to make 2 points with Mamie Snowden’s head -Honor Society meetings were livened with Mr. Druse’s “Music To Scratch Your Head with the Thumb By” Matt W. gave his rendition of Shakespeare in the courtyard and “Hello, Dolly” during the bombscare (he made $.50) -Lori D., Cindy T., Patti P., Tom L., Pat B., and W'ayne J. became “bathroom buddies” Finally, we came to the realization that a part of our lives had passed us by. Graduation is upon us. It is with joy, and with sadness that we leave. The time has come for us to move on, and yet, our years spent with each other can never be forgotten, never be replaced. Our final song cannot be sung—for really, “We’ve Only Just Begun.” ' Cathy Jacobs Class Historians— ' ' Mitchell Lowenthal 151 Senior Directory APPEL, MINDY—Student Council 1,2,3; Vice-President of Sophomore Class 2; Vice-President of Junior Class 3; MOD AC 1,2,3; Interact 3; PYE 3; Student-Teacher Discipline Committee 2,3 APPELBAUM, JERROLD-Camera Club 4 ARMSTEAD, QUEEN-Student 1,2,3,4 BACKER, KEITH—Student 1,2,3,4 BAKER, WAYNE-Student 4 BATES, ELLIOT—Intramural Basketball 1,2,3,4 BECKER, JEREMY—Junior Honor Society 1; Key Club 2,3,4; Key Club Board of Directors 3; Vice-President of Key Club 4; Student Council 1,2,3; Bundle Drive Chairman 4; Band 1,2,3,4; President of Band 4; Math Team 3,4; Business Manager Photographer of Montie Printz 4; Yearbook Photographer 4; Tennis 3; J.V.
