Communications, and Choru Rosemarye Matheney was the recipient ofthis year's National School Choral Award. R. Paula Schonert and Krista Conley were given the Leadership Award for unselfish devotion of time to making the chorus a well organized group. jami White was the proud recipient ofthe American Choral Directors Award this year. ru Each year many talented students take part in Monticello's choral program. This year is no change. Several individuals have been chosen to receive special awards for their contribu- tions. To receive these honors a student must have displayed dedication, leader- ship, and exceptional talent. Individuals who are selected possess these impressive traits and contribute a great deal to the choral program. Mr. Wenzel intends to teach his pupils not only to sing well in the chorus but also to understand some ofthe historical background that accompanies the music they sing. Mr. Stoner presents Rhett Suhre with the Arion Award. To be eligible for this one must be in both band and chorus. Awards 23

This year a special award was given in the area of Communications. The Com- municator's Award is given to a Senior who has shown an above average ability and interest in several areas of communi- cations. To qualify a student must have completed the required courses and taken one or more electives. The award was giv- en to two very deserving people this year. jami White and Mary Faith Feeney were the recipients of this very prestigious award. Every year outstanding art students are Excellence in Art, acknowledged for their artistic talents. The Allerton Art Award is an annual scholarship given to a junior who shows exceptional future potential. Another award given is the Annual Art Award, which is given to the outstanding Senior who exhibits exceptional talent in different areas of artistic endeavors. These awards are given to those stu- dents who dedicate much of their own time and effort in developing various art skills. jami White was one of the recipients of the Communicatofs Award this year. Mr. Lochbaum gives a little speech about jami's accomplishments before giving her the medallion. Mary Faith Feeney was the other recipient of the Communicator's Award this year. Librarians and Thespians Honored A school without books is no school at all. Without librarians Monticello's stu- dents could not excel. This year the staff decided to say thank you to the students who help to run the library. Mrs. Doherty gave special recognition to Brad Curry. The students are indeed fortunate to have such a competent staff and dedicated stu- dent aides. The Thespian organization is made up of a group of theatrically inclined stu- dents. The students who have dedicated outstanding talents and much time throughout the years are recipients of i these prestigious awards.
