With the help of the student body and adviser, Mr. J. K. Felts, the Student Council had several successful projects this year. The school year was just under way when the Student Council began working on the Homecoming program. The date was set for September 30 and the theme was t'Sages in Disneyland. Many ot' our assemblies can also be credited to the Council. A Christmas program and several assemblies featuring professional entertainers were sponsored by this group. A.'s activities this year were purchasing, repairing and then reselling farm machinery, hziviiig a party with F. H. A., and sponsoring a donkey basketball game. Early in the year the initiation of the greg-nhands was held. Several F. F. A. members drove farm machinery, with appropriate s l o ga ns, in the Homecoming parade. Some of the requirements for membership are to take at least one year of agriculture, to be initiated in the greenhands initiation, and to attend the meetings of the organization. The Future Homemakers of America is an organization that has done many varied things this year. To start the year off, Mrs. Maxine Schroth gave a dinner for the executive board to plan the year's program. The local chapter had a float in the Homecoming Parade and at Halloween, a party was given especially forthe Future Farmers of America. One day in the fall was designated as Man Hate Day . On this day the girls in the orga- nization were fined if caught speaking to any male. The accumulated funds fattened the club's treasury. During Future Homemakers of America Week an informal initiation for all new members was held. There was a t'Daddy Date Night with Judy Robison as a speaker. A movie, sponsored by the club, was presented to the student body. In the spring the annual style show of garments made during the year was presented by the organization members. The requirements to become an F.H.A. member are to have taken or be taking at least one year of home economics and to pay dues. At Monticello High School, as in most schools throughout the state, Girls' Athletic Association is a chartered organization which offers various activities in connection with the physical education course in the regular cur- riculum. The girls meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school to 'participate in swimming, soccer, volley-ball, tennis, basketball, field hockey and archery. G.A.A. is open to any girl who wishes to join and a certain number of attendances are required in order to remain a member. In the spring two girls, usually the president and one other girl, are sent to G.A.A. camp at East Bay, Bloomington. There they spend a week living with other t'G.A.A.'ers from all over the state and learning new ideas and activities which may be used to better our own G.A.A. This is the eighth year for Future Business Leaders of America in Monticello High School. To be a member of F.B.L.A. at least one commercial subject is compulsory. At the first of the year, the F.B.L.A. members worked hard to prepare the float which they sponsored in the Homecoming Parade. Then, in October, they had their traditional informal initiation for new members. Dur- ing the year many informative discussions and talks concerning the business world were held during the regu- lar meeting periods. Regular meetings were held twice a month during designated Home Room periods. ' SAGE TALK, which is published bi-nionthly, is a project of F.B.L.A. Edited by Judy Larson and her staff with Mrs. Gertrude Clapper as adyisor, issues of SAGE TALK are popular with both the student body and faculty. This newspaper is in its eighth year of publication. STAGE STCDIQMEIQS Stage Stormers is a dramatic organization designed to give more students, especially freshmen and sopho- mores, opportunities to earn points to become members of National Thespians. Thespians points are earned by participating in plays, working on the production of plays either as stage manager, make-up and costume man- ager, or student director. The number of points given is determined by the number of speechs a person has in a play or the amount of work he does on the production of any play. Ten points are required to become a Thes- pian. This year Stage Stormers held a Hplay day at which time three one act plays were presented. The play day will be held annually. I A n The only requirements for being a member of Stage Stormers are to have an interest in dramatics and be willing to take an active part. All officers of Stage Stormers must be Thespian members in good standing. -. -1 -1 f V x 'N E NEW MUSICAL GRQUPS Boys, ceioraus, MADQIGAL sweets p cs fs fs .. fl QGN P1 'E' BOYS, CHORUS: CFront row, left to right?
