Hard Practice Makes Okaw Champs As we look in our album at the nineteen hun- dred fifty football season, we can all say congratu- lations to our Okaw Champsl As we look back on the season, this is the way it standsi The season did not begin too well, for in the opener Normal came to town with their celebrated Kadlec. We played football, but they played better. The score was 38 to l3 in favor of Normal. Villa Grove came to visit us for our first con- ference game. Manuel scored to start the rally in which we came out on the long end of the score, l3 to O. The Sages then traveled to Farmer City to lose a heartbreaker, Pike, Williams, and Manuel were our main keys, but somehow the score was l3 to l2, Farmer City's favor. Tuscola came to Monticello for our second conference game. They left us battered and bruised and with a score reading 39 to l3 in their favor. We then traveled to LeRoy for an exciting game. The score was O to O all the way until the last three minutes of play. Wayne Meece threw a pass to Owen Anderson who went over the goal line for our one and only touchdown, The final score was 6 to O in our favor. Telling the boys what's what. What price proficiency? On October 20 we celebrated our Homecom- ing. Bob Manuel showed Cerro Gordo how to play football and sparked our team to victory. The final score, one which made our Homecoming per- fect, was l4 to 7. We challenged Arthur on October 27. Our team had shown improvement. The whole team contributed to our win. The score was 39 to l2 in our favor. On November 3 we traveled to Newman. We hated to leave a sad crowd, as it was Homecoming, but it furthered our chances of a possible tie in the Okaw. We won 27 to 6. As the story ends, as of years past, we played Bement on Armistice Day. On a cold Friday night, the night before Armistice Day this year, we jour- neyed to Bement. It was our last chance to grab a piece of that Okaw Valley championship. We met a good team, but our spirit was never downed and we won 25 to 7. We shared our Okaw Valley championship with two other great teams, Arcola and Tuscola. As we close our album on another fine year of football, we say again, Congratulations, Sagesl Dig! Carry Me Back To Old Vir9inny!
