Q21 M History o the Voyade o the Class o 27 In September 1923 thlrty elght of us terror str1cken youngsters went aboard the good Shlp MEMORIES at Freshman Isle Vw e began our career the next morn1ng w1th the customary uneven halrcuts whlch he upper classmen had glven us the mght before Along vslth tnls however the upper classmen showed thelr respects by g1v1ng us a nice leceptlon Nevertheless we were afrald of the faculty and l1te1ally at sea not knowmg what to do or where to go Early ln the year our class orgamzed under the dlI'CCt10I1 ol llhss Morrls who had been chosen to pllOt us on the f1rst knot of our Journey Later as the days went by and after we had become better ac quamted the determmed wlnds of the sea caught ln the sa1l of ou1 ll p and made our golng more smooth After maklng a brlef study of other freshmen classes It was lound that we were not hke most Freshm n classes our shxp MILMOR IES was not gulded by the crew wlth a rovlng lazy movement l1ke other vessels but with a steady stralghtforward motlon Whlbh seemed to part the waters to let us tmough The flrst extra currlculal actlvlty Wa the operetta Once ln -1 Blue Moon 1n whlch many of our members took part Our bank account was opened wlth the proceeds from the sale of At the last party of the year we estabhshed 1 reputatlon for our cleverness 1n a stunt lmltatlng the faculty Fmally after the year s hard to l was over we land d 'mt Sopho more Isle where we anchored for over two months to supply the shlp When we were loaded wlth rest and vltallty we agaln went aboard our dear old shlp to brave our way through the cold waters f0l another year '1h1s tlme however two of our crew were ITllSSlHg' leav mg thlrty slr, members to carry the great burden Also at thls peuod It was necessary to become accustomed to our new pllot Mlss Mlldred I lemmg Under our new p1lot we were proud to be upper clfxssmen and could look down on the poor mnocent Freshmen We were hlndercd by the gods Latln and Geometry who sent a storm upon us The monstrous waves of destru tlon swept over us Ifor a tlme It looked as though our v ssel would be destroy ed but due to great skill on the part of the faculty our good shlp was saved After the battles wlth ou1 enem1es were over we landed at Jun lor Isle from Where after a short lntermlsslon ou1 great 0I'g,3Yl1Z3tlOll departed At thls tlme we had thlrty two members on board foul hav 111 been taken by the hlgher seas the year before Because we now reahzed that lt would not be long untll we were b8lll0I'S we settled down to work ln earnest Agam under the dlrec tlon of Mlss Flemlng we presented a blgger undertaklng than ever be lore the Junlor class play Come out of the Kltchen vxhlch was Q'lV ,Q , 2 ' IPI I T - .2-Yiizifyl X.
