Young, whose frequent informal meetings with students lend a distinctive flavor to campus life. Both Dr. and Mrs. Young are well known for their cordial hospitality in the Kvergreens and their attendance at college receptions, dances, assembly and vesper programs. An active Rotarian, the president is a member of the board of directors of Alton Memorial Hospital and the Alton-Wood River chapter of the American Red Cross, lie graduated from Marshall College, and received his M.A. and Ph.D., from the University of Illinois. Vassar College M.A. Columbia University As Academic Dean, Miss Swift knows first hand the problems of the students; they will ever remember her unsurpassed understanding and interest in them. She is always eager to help them to receive the benefits which Monticello offers every student. Miss Swift is the chairman of the Advising Committee; she supervises curriculum anti examinations. Nevertheless, she finds time, in her busy day to be personal adviser to a number of students and faculty adviser to the Student Council. Wendel H. IXUKK Soria Director B.A. University of Nebraska As director of Social Activities, Mrs. Duree’s duties are many and varied. It is she who makes Monticello week ends so much fun for all the students, being personally interested in their social life. She is also available for consultation on social problems. Under her direction all social events, cabin parties, movies, dances, and teas are planned and scheduled, and trips to St. Louis are arranged. Mrs. Duree is adviser to the Social Committee chairmen and other students. Er.mi va E. Buscii Registrar A.B. University of Illinois As Monticello s registrar and statistician, Miss Busch has the time-consuming job of keeping academic and registration records for each student. Preliminary and linal registration in September, as well as planningo! class and examination schedules, are under her guidance. Miss Busch records grades, prepares transcripts, and compiles each girl’s grade point average at the end of the year. She edits the college catalog, and notes the educational progress of graduates. She is hclpiul also in aiding those who plan to transfer to senior colleges, because she knows the requirements for admission to many of the universities. She, too, serves as personal adviser to a group of students. Mary J. Pfeiffenbergkr Alumnae Secretary A. A. Monlicello College B. A. Wellesley College In addition to editing the Alumnae Bulletin three times a year. Miss Pfeiftcnbcrger keeps in contact with Monticello's 4700 living alumnae. She handles all alumnae mail and sees that former students are entertained when returning to the campus. Miss PfeilTenl erger also attends and participates in the reunions of the some fourteen active clubs throughout the country; thus doing a valuable service for the school in keeping the alumnae interest alive and linking past heritage with future expectations. She also assists the senior class as its faculty adviser. Joseph A. L. Russo Director of Publications A.B. Harvard College Mr. Russo is responsible for all the college publicity. lie prepares promotional material which is used in advancing the public relations ol Monlicello. Ilis beautiful photographs of students and their activities, of campus grounds, and ol college buildings, represent Monlicello life and its ideals. As director ol publications, Mr. Russo also assists in editing and satisfying the photographic needs of the college paper, the Times, and the yearbook, the Echo. His helpful advice to these two student publications is always appreciated. Frances Rousseff Acting Librarian Mrs. Rouseft , as head of Monticello's library stall', serves in the interests of both faculty ami students. In addition to maintaining a quiet atmosphere in the library, Mrs. Rousscff assists students to find reference material or use the card catalogue. The latest editions of reference lx oks, periodicals, selected pamphlets, and other current reading material, are obtained through Mrs. Rousscfl and are available for the entire school’s use; thus adding to the 22,000 volumes already present on library shelves. Mrs. RousselT also has an active part in the preparation and organization ol the college's annual Book Fair. It is an elected group which carries out the democratic spirit needed to make a link between the administration and the student body. The duties of the group are to give official expression to the opinions and ideas of the students and to offer solutions to problems pertaining to student life. The Council Board is comprised of heads of the major organizations, including the class presidents, the house chairmen, M.C.A. and M.A.A. presidents, sponsor chairman. Social Committee, and the editors of the student publications. The four officers of the Council are chosen by the student body for their leadership and sound judgment. The president, Nada Reichman; vice-president, Beverly Cole; secretary, Marcia Warnshuis, and treasurer, Ann Duca, were elected the latter part of their junior year. In December of this year two juniors were named to the posts of secretary and treasurer. Treasurer This governing group, which is elected l v student vote, works in conjunction with the faculty and administration to the advantage of every girl. Members of the council have displayed their powers of judgment, self-reliance, and initiative. Twice a month the council meets to discuss matters concerning the Preparatory School. Membership on the board consists of the officers, class presidents, social chairmen, and floor chairmen. The faculty advisers for this hotly are Mrs. Nell Beall and Miss Betty Dustin Myers. They are both under the direction of Stephen B. Williams, and. combined have sixlv-two singing voices. This year performances were given lor the Mississippi Valley Consistory in Hast St. Louis, and in co-operation with the Kolia School of Mines on campus. It held several student work-shops ’ and offered trips to important musical events in St. Louis. Its membership is open to all students who participate in social service and recreational projects. During the past year the girls have assisted with the Alton YWCA, the Orphanage, Y-Tcens, Girl Scouts and others. The MCA directs campus drives such as the World Student Service Fund, invites guest speakers to visit the college, and provides bus transportation to Alton churches every Sunday. The enthusiastic members are especially busy around Christmas time when their main event of the year—the Doll Dinner—is held.
