Mr. C. A. Caldwell will refire from fhe Board of Trusfees of Monficello College in June I942. Mr. Caldwell was elecfed fo membership on fhe Board of Trusfees in I903, and has rarely, if ever, been absenf from ifs regular meefings during 'rhe infervening fhirfy-nine years. For more 'rhan half of fhaf period he has been presidenf of fhe Board. The ECHO salufes Mr. Caldwell. Mr. Caldwell's associafion wifh Monficello is an epic in fhe American Way. Serving fhe cause of educafion fhroughouf more 'rhan a generafion, wifhouf pay, wifh faifhfulness, pafience, and loyalfy, he sfands for democracy in acfion. Our faifhs in fhe fufure of fhis counfry may well fix fhemselves upon fhis example of Chrisfian service as being fhe besf hope for fhe years fo come. God give us men. May God give us more men like Mr. Caldwell. Mr. Caldwell lcnew Monficello in fhe original building. He wifnessed fhe fire fhaf desfroyed Capfain Godfrey's pioneer efforfs in IB89. He vigorously aided fhe building of fhe new Monficello in I89O. Since fhaf fime fhe besf fraining of young women for fhe greafesf happiness and usefulness has been one of his chief inferesfs in life. .He has been a financier and presidenf of his bank. He has long been a leading layman in his church wifh a record of- almos'f fiff'y years as a Bible feacher. As Al+on's Number One cifizen he has been freasurer of, as well as one of fhe mosf liberal confribufors fo, almosf every forward-looking civic enferprise in his home cify. His name will long be held in fhe greafesf es- feem by his fellow cifizens. Buf, fhe long enduring devofionifo Mr. Caldwell will lie in fhe Monficello fellowship. There his influence will live in fhe richer lives and more abundanf achievemenfs of college youfh grown up. Hafs off!
