Junior Class Sponsor ELQSS HISTURQ As we, the Seniors, look back upon all our school years here at M.H.S., we find that the enrollment of our class has changed many times. On our very first day of school, Miss Flory counted 25. She tried to teach us how to behave in school. Well, you see the results. Miss McNary, our second grade teacher, counted us the next year. She found we had decreased to only 18. The next year, our third, Miss Jacobs counted us and found we had again decreased in number to 17. In the fourth grade we again had Miss Jacobs, who, we are glad to say, was promoted too. She counted us once more and recorded a grand total of 16. In our fifth grade we again decreased in number to 15. Mrs. Garner was our very able teacher. Hrs. Garner was again our teacher for our sixth year. She prepared us for Junior High. at last we reached Junior High, rather shyly but surely. Mrs. Johnson was our home room teacher both years. There was an increase here to 19 members. When we entered high school, we were excited, giddy fresh, men. We increased here to 22. 4 Mrs. wallace was our sophomore home room teacher. We decreased here to 21. d In our 'unigr year, Mrs. Kinzey was our home room teacher. There were 22 of us again. This year there are only 17 of us left. Mr. Stevens is our sponsor, and Mr. Chapin is our home room teacher. Those who started together and have been and still are together ere: Francis Adams, Rebecca Heminger, Madge Hedge, Lillian Sherman, Flo Carpenter, and Russell Burton. - By Joanne King 'flip 4- .-A- 5 r..L'-..:-.'...,....l' ,,,sl ' ' fn... .,,. My crew and I left Mars in the Mart- ian year 76624 in the Flying Saucer model 726-Xl. We made the trip to Earth uneventfully and landed in the United Sates of America. We land- ed in the Earth year 1971 and stayed eight Earth months. The first man we saw was Dick Foster. He was an Earthlin of a very roly-poly appearance. Dick introduced us to Madge CHedgeg, his wife, and their two lovely daughters. dinner of duck from Dick's duck farm. Madge treated us to a delicious Next our wanderings took us to West Millgrove. Here we met Joyce CBickelhauptJ Stoner. She was happily married and had an eighteen year old son. Joyce introduced my Martian party to Harold Geren who was married to Lois Elder. She earned the living for both Harold and herself while Harold dootored that '36 Plymouth which he still called a car. Our wondering now brought us into contact with Francis and Emma Lou Sherman Adams. They had five sons who played basketball. What a team!!! From an airport near Toledo, we went via Earthmen's jet planes to Hollywood, California. This is the capital of the motion picture indus- try . x Here we met Max Tyson, a motion picture actor. Mick had finally found a place where long side burns were in vogue---western movies!! Max took us Martlans to see a friend of his, Russell Burton. Russ- ell, it seems, had taken advantage of to become a comedian. He had an hour Supplying the music on Russell's ed the piano and did a copious amount incidentally, happily married. his silly motions and zany antics T. V. show daily. show was Joanne King. Yes, burnt offerings three times daily. From Texas we traveled to Seattle, Washington. There we met Reva Long. She had dedicated her life to missionary work and the converting of heathens to Christianity. Whether fervor or fever I never determined. Next we Martians traveled to the she carried out her work with a mid-west. Here we visited a lab where atomic research was being conducted. Stevens, and Mr. Paul Chapin. The class went via the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad leaving Fostoria at 5:03 P. M., May 23. we arrived in Washington D. C. the following morning. The fore- noon was spent visiting the interior of public buildings which included: The Bureau of Engraving and Printing, The Washington Monu ent, The Pan American Union, The Smithsonian Institute, and The United States Capitol. After lunch on Capitol Hill, we went to Arlington National Cemetery passing enroute many points of interest and making a stop at the Lincoln Memorial. In Arlington we viewed the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and saw the changing of the Honor Guard. Leaving Arlington we metered to Mt. Vernon to visit the old home of George and Martha Washington. Returning to Washington we passed through Alexandria, Virginia, the old home town of Washington, the National Airport, and also viewed the Jefferson Memorial and Japanese cherry trees. In the evening we dressed for a special dinner and show at Washington's famous Lotus Garden. The next morning we took a bus to Annapolis, Maryland, to visit the U. S. Naval Academy buildings and grounds. Touring back to Washington we visited the Franciscan Monastery and the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. After lunch at 2gOO P. M., we next visited the National History Building and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. we had time out for a bit of shopping in the downtown area. After dinner we had the evening free until train time. Then we traveled to New York City and stayed for three days and two nights in a first class hotel. , While in New York City we received broadcast tickets to a national network program. We were also allowed behind the scenes of broadcasting and television for an hour. Then we went on a guided tour through Rockefeller Center and the observation roof. Later we took a ferry boat to Bedloe's Island to visit the Statue of Liberty. The one tour which proved to be most interesting was the Circle Line Yacht Trip, which was a three hour cruise around Manhattan Island with a lecturer on board to point out the many skyscrapers, Trans-ocean liners, views of the five New York Buroughs and New Jersey, George Washington Bridge, the new United Nations Building, Grant's tomb, Governor's Island, Yankee Stadium, and hundreds of other points of interest. p Next we went on a four and one half hour sightseeing tour through upper and lower Manhattan, Wall Street, China-town, Fifth Avenue, Saint Patrick's Cathedral, and Harlem. The matinee view of the panorama of the stars at the Hayden Planetarium was most educational. One evening we took another sightseening tour through China-town at night, Bohemian Greenwich Village, the Bowery with its streets of forgotten men, down- town Brooklyn, the lower East side with its pushcarts, clothes-lines and gossip. Then we had a late snack at Jack Dempsey's Restaurant. The Great White Way at night is the most spectacular display of Electric Illumination in the world. The wonderful chicken dinner, floor show and dancing at Billy Rose's Diamond Horse Shoe, the most famous nite club in the wor1d,was enjoyed by all. Shopping in the world's largest department stores was thrilling, especially to the girls! Like all good things, our exciting trip had to come to an end, so it was back to Wayne again.
