STUDYING OF THE WORKS of some of the great authors of the past, the taking of notes on the reading, and the writing of papers are a few of the student activi- PLANE GEOMETRY DEALS with the position, size, and shape of geometric figures in space. A major emphasis is on the development of the ability of the stu- dent to write his own proofs and also to improve his thinking in non-mathematical situations. The statements that make up geometry begin with assumptions, defini' tions, and undefined terms. These lead to proofs of theorems and of constructions. An understanding of the meaning and nature of mathematical proof is devel- oped through the study of geometric figures such as triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles.AbOVe,Bob Brady and Jerry Gillis, members of Mr. John Stimack s geometry class, are working geometric proofs. ties in Miss Mary Lewis' Academic English 5 classes. The notebook, an important re- quirement in all English classes at Mont- gomery High School, is the exercise book of the craft of writing.
