— This year’s EAGLE is dedicated to a person who devotes most of his time to the students of MCHS. He is a kind and understanding teacher who respects the worth of others. He coaches both boys and girls basketball teams and has piloted them on to several region and district championships and state playoff competitions. He was the recipient of a GHSA Coach of the Year Award. The efforts of this wonderful teacher and coach have resulted in much ‘ Eagle pride here at our alma mater. For these and other reasons the yearbook staff proudly dedicates the 1985 EAGLE to Coach Ronald Brock. mmm ft vr , • - As every thread of gold is valuable . . . Reflections Thirty-six months, seven hundred and twenty days, seventeen thousand two hundred and eighty hours, one million thirty-six thousand eight hundred minutes, or sixty-two million two hundred and eight thousand seconds of hard labor was the DRACONIC sentence handed down to ninty-eight fright- ened yet optimistic ninth graders as they embarked upon a voyage that would take them from the depths of lowly FRESHMANHOOD to the heights of ELYSIAN SENIOR DOM. During our FRESHMAN year, our well-organized class was transformed into a division of nomads, each beginning on an odyssey of which there is no return. Every FRESHMAN alive that year was asking for acceptance into some special clique or another. The keyword was POPULARITY. There existed an unwritten law that stated if a freshman was not known for some- thing by the end of the year, he was then doomed to a life of being totally nondescript. This rule, of course, did not apply to the class of ”85”. Because our class is so small, all of us that year left our mark on the school. Our Sophomore year was full of crazy and wild times. It seems that everyone in our class had either gone or was going insane. We turned out the pep rallies, made lots of noise in the hall, and we ran the principal's jockey shorts up the flag pole; it was just one crazy gag after another one. There were a few SOPHOMORES who took themselves and others seri- ously that year. For instance, Ginger Johnson, she not only won the Hugh O'Brian Award, but she was also our Sophomore Homecoming Representa- tive. Regina Odum was our Sophomore Homecoming Representative. Melis- sa Perkins won the World History Award that year. There are also the students who won the World History Award that year. There are also the students who received awards for being in the top ten percent of the Sophomore class and the Sophomore students who participated in literary. Our Sophomore year was not filled with just wise cracks and jokes; it also contained great accomplish- ments. The Junior year for the class of ”85 was strenuous and endless. The school year of 1984 was full of WORK, WORK and MORE WORK for our entire class. This was the year that tested us all to see if we had what it takes to become SENIORS. The only high light in our lives that year was receiving our class rings. There were a chosen few who received honors for their hard work. Debra Paul received the Governor's Honors Nominee, the U.S. History Award, the U.G.A. Science Scholar, and the Presbyterian Award. Terry Love won the Presbyterian Award, the U.G.A. Award of Merit, the University of Georgia Award of Merit and Most Improved Player for baseball. Kendal Wood received the Presbyterian Award and the University of Georgia Award of Merit. Clairessa Love was voted Junior Homecoming Representative and so was Ginger Johnson. Herman Woods received Most Improved Player Award, and Sherry Steward placed first in region and third in the State piano competi- tion. At the end of our Junior year, we were glad to go home; it had been a lonj 56 weeks. We have now reached the thresholdo Jast «P i rt oodole M.C.H.S. IN MEMORY OF A FRIEND Joe Davis We who knew him are proud to say, He was my friend . Joe knew how to be a friend. The essential honesty of his character attract- ed others to him. There was no pretention; he was always himself. Quiet and easy-going, he never hurried, except perhaps on the base- ball diamond. The wisdom of his fifteen years, did not come from books. He had learned something far more important than academics—an un- derstanding of the importance of friendship, loyalty, and trust. He was respectful to adults and always willing to come to the aid of others. Sure of himself, his goodness was his strength. We who loved him wish to be true to his memory. He was not some idealized paragon of virtue. Joe was human. Each person who cared for him recalls some witty remark which revealed his amused outlook on life. Most of all. Joe loved life. For him, it was one big ball game and he loved every minute. When we remember Joe. we remember laughter, we remember having fun. His humor and his humanity endeared him to us. . . the tear that we shed, though in secret it rolls, shall long keep his memory green in our souls. —Sharon Killingsworth, Linda Kea In Memoriam Mr. Sappie Farmer In one sense there is no death. The life of a soul on earth lasts beyond his departure. You will always feel that life touching yours. That voice speaking to you. that spirit looking out of other eyes, talking to you in the familiar things he touched, worked with, loved as familiar friends.
