We surveyed it like a sleek tomcat sittin’ on a fence- real cool! We gave ... it a whirl and for us it is still going 'round and 'round. On one of these turns, along about the end of the first semester, we seniors realized that if we didn't catch up. we would be left behind. W’c feel we have not only caught up, but are a little ahead of being adequately prepared for whatever comes to us after graduation. 73 SENIOR MOST INTELLECTUAL Libby Campbell and Robvn Day Cerdic Henry and Myra Brantley Donna McRae and Roger Reynolds Ann Woods and Kenneth Terrell BEST DRESSED BEST LOOKING Diane l awrence and Mark McKie Brenda Troupe and John Telfair MOST POPULAR SENIOR DIRECTORY WE’VE COME A LONG WAY LAVERN BAKER FHA 3; Chorus 2 PATRICIA BAKER FHA 1, 2, 3, 4; Science Club 3, 4; Drama Club 4; Flag Girl 4 ALEC BARBER FFA 1, 2, 3 SHARON BELL Cheerleader 1; Basketball 1, 2; FHA I, 2,3, 4; Science Club 1; Who’s Who Among American High School Students 1; Miss National Teenager Pag- eant 1, 4; Chorus 1 JOHN BLOUNT Band 1, 2, 3, 4; B Team Basketball 1, 2; Band-First Lieutenant 4; FFA 4; Forestry 4; Forestry President 4; Oral Interpretation 3, 4 DEBRA BRANTLEY Basketball 1, 2, 3, 4; FHA 2, 3, 4; Science Club 2, 3, 4; Class Treasurer 3; Student Council Reporter 4; FHA Chapter Degree 2; FHA Junior Degree 1; Drama Club 4; M-Club 2, 3, 4; Who’s Who Among American High School Students 4; Most Athletic 4 MYRA BRANTLEY FHA 1, 2,3, 4; Public Relations Chairperson 1, 2; State Parliamentarian 3; Honor Roll Chairperson 3; Sweetheart 3; President 4; Junior Degree 1; State Degree 4; Class Officer 1; Debate Novice 2; Science Club 2, 3, 4; Student Council Secretary-Treasurer 3; Who’s Who Among American High School Students 4; Most Intellectual 4; Home Economics Alternate 2; Oral Interpretation Alternate 3; Contestant in Almost Anything Coes Show 4 BERNICE BRAZELL FHA 1; Basketball Manager 1; Chorus 3; Science Club 4 BARRY BROWN FFA I CYNTHIA BROWN FHA I, 2,3, 4; Junior Degree 1; Chapter Degree 2; Bulletin Board ('hair- man 1; Scrapbook Committee I; Top Ten Percent 3, 4; Chorus 3, 4; Office Aide 4; Most Likely to Succeed 4; Yearbook Staff 4; Who’s Who Among American High School Students 4; Attended YETP Program 3 DONNA CALHOUN Tri-Hi-Y 1, 2, 4; Science Club I, 2, 3, 4; Reporter 2; FHA 1, 2; Yearbook Photography 4; Chorus 4 ERWIN COGUN Football 1; FFA 1 JOHN DEES FFA I, 2, 3, 4; Forestry Field Day 3 JERRY DIXON FFA 1, 2, 3, 4; Football 1, 3, 4 TERESA DIXON Chorus 1, 4; Yearbook Staff 4; FHA I, 4 LAMAR GIBBS FFA I, 2, 3, 4 MAC HAMILTON Band 1, 2, 3, 4; Senior High Brass 78 3; Senior High Brass 77 2; Chorus 1; FFA 1; Football I KENNY HARDEMAN FFA I; Science Club 2, 3, 4 DONNELL HARRIS FFA 1, 2 CEDRIC HENRY FHA 4; Student Council 2, 4; Science Club 1, 3; Drama Club 4; FFA I, 2, 3, 4; Chaplin 2; Reporter 3; Class Officer I, 2; Band I, 2, 3, 4; Solo And Ensemble 2, 3, 4; Who's Who Among American High School Students 4; M-Club 3, 4; President 4; Basketball 2, 3, 4; Baseball 3, 4; Track 1, 2, 3; Most Intellectual 4; Most Popular 4; Basketball Camp 1, 2 LANCE JONES Drama 1, 2,3,4; FFA 4; Sage 2,3; Student Council 3; Debate 2,3,4; Hi-Y 3, 4; Richard B. Monday morning was not the usual gloomy day. A trip on a Time Machine took us to the years of rock, cruisin’ and having fun—the 50’s! Tuesday—an outsider would have been stunner!! Imagine walking into classrooms full of stuffed animals. VY'ednesday found everyone dressed as country kids! Even the teachers took advantage of this day to let their true personalities shine through. Thurs- day was hat day. Friday was the most exciting day of the week. Spirit was high and building as everyone showed up at school wearing red, white and blue. At 1:15 cars started lining up in the parking lot for the parade which would end in a pep rally at the courthouse. The cheerleaders really put on a great performance and the students were already anticipat- ing the night’s activities. Homecoming half-time activities were under the direction of the Student Council. The buzzer sounded half-time and silence fell over the crowd. This was to be one of the most thrilling times in two girls’ lives. The girls went through the ceremony, and the announcer asked for silence. The 1978-79 Homecoming Queens were Janice Lawerence and Brenda Troupe. The Senior representatives were Nancy Witt and Myrtle Smiley, The Junior Representatives were Angie Blocker and Alesa Love. Representing the Sophomore class were Taryn Way and Yvette Robinson. Freshmen Repre- sentatives were Clementine Brooker and Diane Taylor. 107 109 EAGLE BASEBALL TEAM Coach Mike Roobin We always feed the teams. I would like to express to the student body of Montgomery County High School a sincere “thanks” for helping make 1978-79 a most success- ful year in the annals of education in Montgomery County. Your attitude and help during this year certainly helped to insure a banner year. Education is a changing process, and the graduating seniors of 1978-79 will certainly go forth into a very complex society. My advice to you, per- haps, would best come from John Wooden, ex U.C.L.A. coach, who said, “Be prepared and perhaps your chance will come.” Make the most out of every opportunity life offers. Finally, to the 1978-79 Senior Class graduates, I hope you will continue to hold high the torches of good citizenship and dedication to duty, and that Montgomery County will always be proud to list you among its graduates. Sincerely yours, Carlton Walton Principal 136 FA CUT TY DEDICATION Thoroughness of scholarship, integrity of character, and devotion to student growth are but a few of the qualities that our dedicatee possesses. These and other qualities have made her eminently capable of contributing significantly to the educational growth of our school. Through personal example and instruction she has instilled high ideals of scholarship and citizenship within many students who have passed through this school. It is for these reasons that the Eagle Staff proudly dedicates to Mrs. Faye Brewer the 1978-79 EAGLE as a symbol of the eternal gratitude and deep respect of the many students whom she has inspired and guided. 138 SCIENCE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL Mr. Wayne Strickland Athletic Director Football Coach Miss Ruth Andrews Home Economics I, II Mrs. Edith Barnhill Typing I, II Bookkeeping Office Practice Mrs. Mary J. We know we haven’t captured everything that happened or everyone that participated, but that isn’t what we have tried to do. The staff has tried to pick out events that created a mood, what it was like to be in school in 1979. The feeling you get from simply walking down the hall. The feel- ings that rise from being with your friends. If we can bring back even a small bit of the feeling of the times, we can feel we have been successful.
