The Blazers played upper class teams, trying to raise Blair's standing in the field of sports. The team won two and lost seven. They opened their 1947 football season by defeating the Rockets, 32 to 0. The invading Rockville eleven was no match for the Blair team. who scored in every period but the first, and kept the visitors outside the Blair 35 yard line. In the second game a strong eleven from Georgetown Prep handed the overconfident Blazers their first defeat of the season, the visiting Hoyas proved too fast around the ends for the home team. The 32-6 defeat was a fatal blow to the Blairites' moral. Next, the highly favored and undefeated Johnnie-s in- vaded Blair. This was anyone's game until the last quarter, when St. John took a 36-20 lead and held it. Then the Blair gridders won their seasonls second by trouncing the Frederick Tigers 30-0. Taking to the air and ground, the home team scored in every period but the first. During the next four games the Blair team scored only once. The last two were played in two inches of mud. Finally the team traveled to College Park for 'the Big Game. The Barons won, 6-0. Fumbling and penalties kept the Blazers from scoring more than once. VVhen the game ended the Blair gridders were on Bethesda's Eve yard line. 4, , v ,I .xyiv . I. V.
