Dr. Harold Whiteman and Mrs. Ruth Napier are in charge of the Development Office, which raises money and serves the alumni. Last year, a program of annual giving was instituted for the first time and raised $285,000. M.B.A. is fortunate that this money does not have to be used to pay the yearly bills as it does in most schools, but can go directly into an endowment fund managed by a brokerage firm. The interest from this fund not only pays expenses but also subsidizes each student’s tuition. This year the program should be equally successful. Before last year, the school raised money primarily by holding capital campaigns, fund- raisers for specific goals such as the one in 1 982 that raised the $7.5 million for the Massey building, the new gym, improvement of the athletic field, and increasing the endowment. Besides handling M.B.A.’s financial affairs, the Development Office serves the alumni. Last year marked the beginning of the publication of an alumni list which contains each alumnus’ address and occupation. An updated list should be made every five years. This year for the first time, an alumni magazine was made and the first annual alumni dinner will be held in December.
