We are proud of our many accomplish- ments at Montgomery Area High School, and we hope that our yearbook will some day help us to recall these many pleas- ant memories. It is with deep gratitude that We Wish to thank our year- book advisers: Mrs. Bower, Mr. Johns, and Mrs. Decker. DEDIC TIO L91 l l Mn. RICHARD W. JOHNS We, the class of nineteen hundred and sixty-five, wish to bestow our yearbook dedication upon Mr. Richard Iohns. Though he has been with us but a few years, he has en- riched our class in both scholarship and athletics. Mr. johns starred in football at his high school alma mater. Upon gradu- ation from Bloomsburg State College in 1961, he came to Mont- gomery. In his first teaching year, Mr. johns volunteered to coach the seventh-grade football team. Two years later he be- came head varsity coach--a position which he holds today. Mr. johns instilled in his players the desire to win which will remain a part of them for many years to come. He instilled in his students the desire to continue on the road of life with a new and better View of its horizons. For this we thank you Mr. Richard johns. QQ? 6 Q, ADMINISTRATIGN ADMINISTRATION To THE CLASS OF 1965: All people, particularly in youth, yearn for a career of service. This yearning unfulfilled leaves life a compromise breeding restlessness and dissatisfaction, but when this yearning is pursued diligently, it creates a spiritual uplift which can take us from the depths to the stars. We all sense, directly or indirectly, consciously or unconsciously, that to give a part of onels self in order to help another is to touch immortality. Listen to the Words of K. Gibran in his book, The Prophet: And I say that life is indeed darkness save when there is urge, And all urge is blind save when there is knowledge, And all knowledge is vain save when there is Work, And all work is empty save when there is love, And when you Work with love you bind yourself to yourself, And to one another, and to God. May these words be an inspiration to you and help you down life's pathway. . Supervising Principal, J. Gam! GLENNWOOD I. Cmsr 6 To THE CLASS OF 1965: Congratulations to you who must step bravely into a World of bigotry, bitter- ness, prejudice, hate, and unrest. You are prepared to contribute to mankind your Wisdom, knowledge, and willingness to show courage, compassion, resourceful- ness, and understanding for the people who live in our World today. I like to think of education as being similar to the construction of a house. Our elementary school helped you with the foundation, your high school training has helped you with the main structure. Now you should be ready to finish this educational house with specialized training, and finally make your house into a home by good living and many happy experiences. Our best wishes to you in all your future endeavors. Elementary Principal, 7fmf7p WILLIAM SAND YER 12 EUGENE A. BARNHART Grade 5 IDA BIXLER Grade 5 MARGARET L. BROOKHART Grade 6 DOROTHY E. IB HIGH FOOTBALL Montgomery's football fortunes started out on the right foot this year by soundly trouncing a Troy team which went undefeated throughout the remainder of the season. But then the roof caved in and the team suffered four straight losses. Then Montgomery was given some incentive for the remainder of the season by playing good ball against a highly-rated Bald Eagle eleven. The following week Montgomery invaded Loyalsock and came home with a sound victory. The team made a gallant fight against a strong Montoursville eleven, but size and depth prevailed and Montgomery lost. The following two weeks were happy ones for Montgomery football fans because the team trounced Mifllinburg and on their iinal game, broke the Muncy Jinx with a decisive victory and brought the Old Shoei' back to where it belongs. Two players, Kip Hall and jim Ring who were outstanding during the season were chosen to play at the annual All-Star game at Danville. jim Ring holding the Old Shoe Tro- phy won by the Red Raiders in their game against Muncy. VARSITY BASKETBALL SCORES Montgomery's basketball team, hurt by a lack of height, experienced a mediocre season this year although they provided many thrills for their fans. Several times the team came close to defeating a contender for the West Branch title only to lose in the Waning minutes of the game. The members of the team are to be highly re- spected because of their never-give-up attitude which will benefit them in their future lives. Danville ,,,..... ,..,.,.. St. Ioe ..,.,.... .,...... Due to the lack of boys out for junior High Wrestling we had to forfeit between 30 and 40 points each match which was too much of a handicap to overcome. There were several boys with line records and one was undefeated. Stan Piirman led the team with a 6-0-I record followed by Denny Miller with a 6-1. Dave Ravert and Larry Walborn each had a 5-2 record. Ap- proximately two hundred persons attended the banquet which was sponsored by the Booster Club. After a fine dinner, the guest speaker, Mr. Robert A. N ewcombe, Director of Admissions at Lycoming College, gave a well organized speech about sports. One of the main points of his speech was, 'It takes not only brawn to make a good athlete, but also a head to guide that bodyf Booster Club awards were presented to twen- ty-five senior athletes and four senior cheerlead- ers. Awards for the athletes consisted of a gold football, basketball, or wrestling charms depend- ing upon what sport or sports the individual took part in. A gold bar was given to an athlete for each year he had lettered in his particular sport or sports. Captains of the sports were given a gold star to signify their leadership. All of the awards are to be pinned onto the red and white varsity jackets which each athlete receives for lettering two or more years in one sport. The Senior Class would like to thank the Booster Club for its continued service to our school sporting program. We hope that this iine organization will continue to serve our school and its athletes in future years to come. Everyone present seemed to enjoy himself. Right-Top to bottom: 1-Mr. Robert Newcombe delivers his speech. 2-Connie and Linda received cheerleading awards 3-Mr. Arnold Reed reviews our basketball season. 4-The boys wait very patiently to receive their awards. 64 'Q R: A gf Air PATRONS MR.
