Troxell To a man who has shown us the way through the intellectual and extracurricular doors of our school life, we, the class of 1959, humbly dedicate this book. Mr. Troxell is a person to whom we have looked with respect and admiration. YVC will always remember him for the deep interest that he has had in us, for the sincere appreciation he has shown when things have gone right, and for the frank and help- ful criticism that he has offered when things have gone wrong. Class Histor Freshman Year In September, 1955, we started our first year of high school, eaming the right to be called freshmen and the privilege of pick- ing our respective courses. To lead us through our Hrst year of high school, we picked as president of the class Rick Miller, with Peg Stahl as vice-president, Judy Yeagle as secretary, and Bob Sophomo Everyone was quite anxious to begin the sophomore year. At last we weren't looked down upon as freshmen. To head our class this year, we picked as president Rick Miller. Helping him- were vice-president joan Moon, secretary Peg Stahl, and treasurer Ronald Hartranft. To the Student Council we elected John Flick, Chuck Yohn, and Bill Young. A hayride held on October 13 to the Elimsport Park was enjoyed by all who attended. A Junior In the fall of 1957, we happily returned to school and eagerly looked ahead to our full schedule of events as juniors. We elected as our class officers in this important year, Rick Miller as president, Chuck Yohn as vice-president, Peg Stahl as secretary, Ronnie Miller as treasurer, and sergeant at arms Tom Mc- Donough. Very ably representing the junior class on the Student Council were Peg Stahl and Bill Young. We all experienced a very big thrill when, on September 16, we ordered our class rings. In November we again felt the same thrill as we ordered our felt goods. As a money raising project, we decided to sell jewelry Secules as treasurer. The freshman Student Council representa- tives were Ruth Hitesman and Bill Young. Mr. Weight and Mr. Johnson, our home room teachers, helped to guide us through our initial year of high school. re Year month later, November 14, a skating party was held at Fall's Hall in Hughsville. March 22, 1957, found almost all sophomores attending a record dance sponsored by our class and held in the high school gymnasium. Our class advisors and home room teachers who helped to direct us through our second year of high school were Miss Rug- gles and Mr. Troxell. Year and Christmas cards. On our social calendar, we had planned a hayride for October 12, but it was called ol? because of the Asian Hu epidemic. Perhaps the most delightful task of the year was the undertaking of the junior-Senior Prom. As the theme of the dance, we picked Roman Holiday, and Elaine McConnick was put in charge of decorations. On June 6, the last day of this most exciting school year, Carol Steele held a class party at her home. Guiding us through this very successful year were Mrs. Bosch and Mr. Beck, our class advisors and home room teachers. Senior Year On September 2, 1958, the class of 1959 rather sadly returned to school, for we realized this would be our last year with our classmates, friends, and teachers. As class officers for our last year of high school, we elected Rick Miller as president, Chuck Yohn as vice-president, Peg Stahl as secretary, Ronnie Miller as treasurer, and Clyde Buck as sergeant at arms. Senior Student Council members were Bill Young, Peg Stahl, Wes Yost, Judy Yeagle, Ronald Hartranft, and Anna Jean Waltman. The most important class project of the year was the undertaking of the 1959 La Monta. Although many long hours of hard work were put into our yearbook, we found it to be a worthwhile and suc- cessful project. One of our first senior activities was Slop Day, held November 13. That evening at six o'clock, our grade parents gave us a spagetti dinner at the fire hall, after which nearly everyone went to Carol Steele's for a class party. Instead of having a class play this year, our class decided a Variety Show would be a bigger success. The benefits of the show, held on April 18, went to the yearbook staff. The social event of the year, the Junior-Senior Prom, took place May 15, with a theme of moon- light and roses. Nearly every one in the Junior and Senior class attended and enjoyed themselves. Our class day was May 22, with Baccaluareate May 24. Finally, the biggest night of all, Commencement, May 25. We ended our school year with a three day class trip to New York City beginning May 26. Our class advisors this year, Mr. Bird and Miss Ruggles, did, we feel, an excellent job of guiding us through our final high school year. We, the class of 1959, leave our Alma Mater with happy memories of school days well spent. In the years to come, these memories and experiences will be priceless to each and every one of us. To all our teachers and friends we bid a final farewell as we leave through these doors to begin a new life and future. Flaming Foliage Queen Judy Yeagle Judy was sclcvtvcl to 11-present our school in the annual Flaming Foliage fvstivzil at Renova. Pm-nnzi. She honored our school by being chosen quvvn. This is thv first time n l'l'I7l'I'SPI1l2lllN'0 from our school has honored us in this waxy. Further edu- cation, formal or otherwise. helps mature men and women to improve themselves d as pro ucers and to participate in our society more efficiently as citizens and as persons. In our complex age of science. technology. and conflicting standards, adults need to continue their education if they are to be citizens with an under- standing of modern life. As you leave the school, your parents, teachers and your many friends will con- tinue to watch as each of you follows his thread of destiny. May we be as proud of you then as we are now.
