CLASS HISTDRY In the course of school life every graduating class has the special privi- lege of presenting its history, history that has been in the making throughout the years the class has been trudging along through the intricacies of the av- erage course of study planned by those who have the welfare of the youth and the future good of the world at heart. The graduating class of Montfort High, occupying the place of honor during the year 1957, is just as well pleased to take advantage of this opportunity as any other class finishing the prescribed outline of work. This class is just as proud of the records made as any other class of young people would be under similar circumstances. While we have not achieved world renown in the time that we have so spent under the protection of this school, we have at least laid the foundation for future activities and we look forward with keen anticipation to the time when we shall make our place in the world. The class of 1937 is made up of thirteen girls and seven boys and to say that the female of the speoie did not have en opportunity to have their own way would be putting it rather mildly. However, they were kind, generous, and considerate. In all instances pertaining to class activities such as class e- lections, colors, motto, prom, and others, the opinion and voice of the boys received due consideration. In school activities both girls and boys have had a prominent part and we must give them credit for doing their work well as they carried off their full share of the honors. Doris Knesting won first place in the humorous division of the declamatory contest last year and Alta Bendorf won second in the dra- matic section. The oratorioal contest was won by Clyde Moller. In fact every member of the class has participated sometime or other during the past years in activities other than the prescribed course of study. We are proud of the members of this class for their loyalty and service during the past year and previous years as well. They have had the right spir- it in work and play and when they get into the games of life they will be bet- ter prepared for the activities there because they have been so well trained in our dear old Montfort High. Going back to the beginning, supposedly twelve years in the past, we find but few of the present members enrolled in the first grade. Some were playing about home and others enrolled in some nearby rural school. Helen Cook, Ruth Heller, Myra Kennedy, Roxy Vine, Therese Yanna, and Vernon Townsend are the names found on the roll of the first grade room in 1925. These six members have remained together throughout the course. Others began with the class but have dropped out from time to time for one reason or another. Before their el- ementary schooling was completed they were joined by others including Cecilia Sikhart, Lloyd Carter, and Jack Stephens, Jack skipping a grade. when the group entered high school they found that other boys and girls had been making grades as well but some of them lived in the country and had been attending rural schools. The class now included, along with those already mentioned,Alta Bendorf, Alice Hulsether, Doris Knesting, Marian Nelson, Beat- rice Sikhart, Mary Jane Williams, Beulah Watchorn, Merideth Durni,John Giltner Charles Johns, Kenneth Mellor, Merlin Moen, Howard Preston, Andrew Saoinson, and Claude Schnaok. Only one member, Merideth Durni, left us during the fresh- men year but during our days as sophomores John Giltner, Andrew Sabinson, and Claude Sohnack decided to seek success in other fields. In our Junior work we were strengthened by the addition of Modesta Lamps of the Fennimore High S.snd Clyde Moller who had been seeing a bit of the world. This year we sadly parted with Mary Jane Williams who is a student in the Madison West High and Kenneth Mellor, e member of the graduating class at Cobb. So passed the years in Joy and sorrow, in sunshine and rain. We are proud of our class and see great things for the members in the years yet to come.
