The history text usually begins with the advent of Columbus. Xlesa Verde alone pre-dates a civilization some eight centuries betore Columbus: or neairly twice the span of years of that explorer to the present. Today. the future of an NI.G.H.S. student is his own backyard. Yesteryear, the graduate of our school left the Four Corners area for higher learning, and usually remained because of lack of opportunity for advancement. Now, with the atomic materials. the world vital gas and oil industry, and the yet untold potentials of carbon dioxide, titanium, sulphur, vanadium, lumber, coal, agri- culture, along with other resources of our vast reserve, you can come home again. Your future is here, awakening the MIGHTY SLEEPING UTE. 4- 1 1, YP' rl u ,iff I E' ll! Q, si I i. S j W- :Qf - V 'T I K ww ,m,.,W . . X Wwavfffwwwmv mg, V ill 'bim- Q 5 - .Aki- M ,W - 1:2 . As such I realize that I enjoy greater freedom, greater privileges and greater advantages than any other youth in the world. '6If I am to continue to enjoy these things, I must do my best to maintain them. HI know, therefore, that I must obey laws and uphold the principles upon which our nation was founded. As I am but one of millions. I must respect the rights of others. As I am not perfect, I must be tolerant of others. As I am young, I must accept good counsel from my elders. Knowing that tomorrow I will be one who will help to guide the destinies of my country, I shall bear in mind that I must be fitted to assume the duties of citizenship, and that I, the same as others before me, must consider that there are others to follow me. who. if they are to enjoy the kind of world that I am enjoying, must have that kind of world waiting for them. Thus, anything I do today to destroy the rights, privileges and liberties of others is unfair and selfish. These things I do not wish to do. Therefore, I will try to be considerate, honest, and decent, so that others may live as freely as I am living, today and in the futuref' 'JI fm 0 I 'lint If Dedication Loving hands to guide and direct us, Kind words to help and correct us. In deep appreciation of your inspiring leadership, long service, and faith in American Youth, W e dedicate this annual, Gladys H art, to you Superin tenelenitps Message M.C.H.S. One of the best of these for me has been the privilege of serving as president of the student body this year. The friendships formed by working with the counselors and school mates are most rewarding and will always be remembered. The experience gained in organizing and carrying out school projects will be of great help in carrying out future projects. As is the case with any group, the success that our student body has had was brought about by the wonderful cooperation that the students have given all of our efforts. We want our school to be the very best, and we all want to do our part to keep it at the top. We who are graduating are grateful for the fine opportunities we have had here and will try, l am sure, to make our lVlontezuma County High School as proud of us as we are of it.
