Ninety-six make up the four sections of seventh grade. The one hun- dred sixteen students in eighth grade are divided into four sections. The freshman class, consisting of one hundred forty- four, is organized on the same plan as senior high. Class meetings are held whenever there is some business which concerns the class. The officers of the freshman class are: president, Paul Bjerke: vice-president, Adele Peterson: secretary, Victor Moose: treasurer, Judy Wik: and the student council representatives are Betty Norman, Janet Moe, Paul Peterson, and Leslie Saue. The freshman class advisors are Mr. Hoffman, Mr. Parsons, Mr. Holden, and Mr. Hubbard. The seven ones have Mr. Eliason as their advisor. Their officers are: president, Marc Brown: vice-president, Mari- Eyn Oyen: .secretary-treasurer, Karen Alstad: and their student council representative is Lorraine Oakland. 122 Miss Miller is the seven two's class advisor. Their officers are: president, Kristin Boi-sgard: vice-president, Wanda Van Gorp: secretary-treasurer, Robert Beltz: and the stu- dent council representative is Sara Larson. The seven three's advisor is Mr. Jauss. Diane Dilley pre- sides over their meetings and if she is absent vice-president Kern Rodeberg takes over. Sharon McAuliffe takes the minutes and is in charge of the treasury. Dean Schulke is their student council representative. Mr. Miller is the advisor of the seven fours. Their officers are: president, Judy Olsen: vice-president, Jill Harding: secretary-treasurer, Coralie Holland: and the student coun- cil representative is Carol Hein. The eight ones have as their advisor Mr. Johnson. Their officers are: president, Maurice Nokleby: vice-president, William Strommer: secretary-treasurer, Dennis Johnson: and their student council representative is Sybil Stokke. The eight two's advisor is Miss Sandager. Their president is Larry Nordby: vice-president, Jim Jensen: secretary- treasu1'er, Ronald Solheim. and they 'are represented in student council by Neil Gulden. Mr. Emkovik is the eight three's advisor. The class offic- ers are: president. Ronald Anderson: vice-president, Max- ine Moe: secretary-treasurer, Janice Marholz, and their student council representative is Ronald Anderson. Mr. Crews is the advisor of the eight fours. Marge Jo Ettesvold presides over their meetings and if she is absent vice-president, Frank Gniifke, takes over. Sandra Johnson is in charge of the minutes and treasury. Norma Olien is their student council representative. The junior high students are being highly represented this year in musical organizations which include band, or- chestra, chorus, and a number of ensembles. In our junior high chorus there are about twenty-one seventh graders, forty-two eighth graders and thirty-one freshmen. In this group there are sixty-nine girls and twentv-five boys. Chorus meets in two parts most of the time, but sometimes they all meet together. The girls meet at 8:20 on Monday and Thursday mornings and the boys on Tuesday and Friday mornings. This year we have both a senior and junior high band. There are about seventy students in junior high band while there are about twenty-five junior high students in senior band. Numerous ensembles are being started in both the vocal and instrumental music departments. One of the many extra-curricular activities is G. A. A. This year there are about one hundred girls taking part in it. It is under the direction of Miss Barsness. The offic- ers are: president, Judy Wik: vice-president, Linda Dilleyg secretary, Frances Olsen, and treasurer, Kay Perkins. Dur- ing the year there are activities such as bowling, basket- ball, volleyball, and kittenball. Activity heads are chosen f or each activity. The Student Council is composed of representatives from each class. The council selects dates for class parties and discusses problems and activities of the junior high. Miss Edna Johnson is the advisor. The officers for the council are: president, Betty Norman: vice-president, Ronald An- derson: and secretary, Sybil Stokke. Other members of the council are: seventh grade-Lorraine Oakland, Sara Lar- son, Dean Schulke. and Carol Heing eighth grade-Neil Gulden and Norma Olien: ninth grade-Paul Peterson, Janet Moe, and Leslie Saue. Journalism is another interesting activity under the direction of Miss Miller. The junior high paper, The Mo- hawk Messenger, is published- every six weeks. The editors are Lee Rau and Grace Gallagher. There are about fifty other students on the staff. Mr. Jauss coaches about twenty-six freshmen boys in basketball. He also coaches about the same number of eighth graders, with the help of Mr. Emkovik. Considering all these activities we see that the Junior High is a very active part of Central High School. 7, I Mgl' A f ww y, ii W g W X MZZJQJZQJAMQMM !!! I I I A A I t .L ' ax' A w re 'mtl 1? On the seventh, 119 pairs of feet hustled toward the big red schoolhouse and on the fif- teenth and sixteenth, 119 heads bent over odious Iowa Tests. To demonstrate the art of pig- skin pegging, Sauk Centre appeared the seventeenth and on the twenty-fourth Montevideo played host to Glenwood. UCTOBER . . . We invaded the home of the Kilowatts the first. Though thoroughly saturated, we made a success of our Snake Dance and Pow-wow followed by Jeans and Feather Day and Car- ol's coronation. Our napkin float gallantly burst through the fog at half-time of our tussle with Appleton the eighth. The Willmar Cardinals invited us to their Homecoming, and af- ter the MEA Convention the twenty-first and twenty-second, during which our relentless mag: zine campaign surpassed all records, we ended our final high school football season in battles against Morris, Litchfield, and Benson. NOVEMBER . . . The feet of three seniors journeyed to Albert Lea for the State Student Council Convention the fourth and fifth. The weekend of the eighteenth, the junior thespians presented Our Miss Brooks, and the following week our basketball season opened in a game with Minne- apolis West High. The Turkey Trot of the twenty-sixth, made more successful by previous dancing classes, spirited our Thanksgiving vacation. DECEMBER . . . Returning from Morris the third, we eagerly anticipated the oncoming rivals, Canby. The spirit of Christmas pervaded the auditorium the sixteenth with the high school Christmas program. The long trip to Glenwood did not dampen the enthusiasm with which we planned to defeat Granite. JANUARY . . . Recovering from a welcome vacation, our basketball team met Sauk Centre, Madison, Ap- pleton, Litchfield, and Dawson in rapid succession. District debate and twenty-sixth pre- ceded our last January basketball game at Willmar the twenty-eighth. FEBRUARY . . . This month was a myriad of basketball games with Benson, Appleton, Ortonville, Marsh- all, Willmar, and Clarkfield, broken only by Regional and State Debate Meets the second and nineteenth, and the District One-Act Plays the twenty-eighth. MARCH . . . I March came in like a lion with two weeks of sub-district and district tourneys. Regional basketball at St. Peter followed close on the heels of the District Speech Festival the four- teenth. The Regional One-Act Play Meet at Dawson was held three days before an army of students, three hundred strong, invaded Minneapolis hotels for the State Basketball Tour- naments the twenty-fourth, twenty-fifth, and twenty-sixth. The Regional Speech Meet at Clarkfield concluded another hectic month. APRIL . . . April festivals included State Drama and Speech the second and twenty-second, District Vocal at Appleton on the twenty-third, and District Instrumental the following weekend at Montevideo and Ortonville. MAY . . . Climbing the final step, we presented our class play on May fifth, sixth, and seventhguand spring sports opened with the District Golf Meet the fourteenth. The long-awaited senior trip became a reality the twelfth through the fifteenth. Our last season of spring. sports end- ed with the District Track Meet, baseball tournaments the week of the twenty-third, and Re- gional Track and Golf Meets at Ortonville and Madison. Baccalaureate was a solemn ending to the month of May. JUNE . . . The top of the ladder. Our Commencement the third at eight o'clock, State Golf Meet, Track and Field Meet the sixth and seventh, vacation, college, work .... 74 f .. The Bell! The Bell! The B-I-L!
