JEMISON (28-18) Tim Ross moved back to fullback from tackle in second quarter after injuries had ripped the starting backfield and bulldozed the Bulldogs to victory. MHS had to come from behind twice as injuries to starters left them diso- riented. VINCENT (26-18) Terry McCarey's generalship, Ross's inside running behind Johnny Williams’ blocking, anda great team defensive effort were the keys to victory. MHS’ Thomas Brown's 84-yd. kickoff- return to open the second half gave breathing room. WINTERBORO (53-22 Hardhitting in the early going produced a turnover and took the desire for combat away from Winterboro and allowed MHS to coast to an easy victory. Brown scored 4 TD's in the first quarter then retired for the night. CALERA (26-6) Tim Ross's 21-yd. ramble behind Johnny Williams and Dennis Brown blocks in the 3rd quarter broke the ice and the Eagles’ back as MHS pulled away after an 0-6 halftime deficit.

FRANCIS MARION (36-0) A tenacious defense which turned back the Rams after an MHS fumble on the 5-yd. line and held Marion to 3 first downs, along with Thomas Brown's 3 TD's and 186 yards offense sparked the opening Bulldog win. CHELSEA (20-0) A 34-yd. aerial from Thomas Brown to Shane Connell on the 1 yd. line with 40 seconds remain- ing in the first half opened the way, and Sidney Fields’ 83-yd. sprint with an intercepted pass sealed another victory, as the defense again protected the MHS goal line. SHELBY COUNTY (18-0) A swarming defense, an offen- sive line that came to play, and outstanding ball-carrying by Brown, Connell and Terry McCarey gave MHS its first vic- tory over Shelby County in 14 years. THOMPSON (0-40) Allowing Tim Durrett, Warrior QB, to break a long one on their second possession and turning it over on a fumble on the first play from scrimmage in the second half gave the Warriors the impe- tus necessary to wallop the Bull- dogs in their only regular season loss of the year.

WEST BLOCTON (27-0) Great second effort on offense and intensive first effort on defense were the keys to this ‘team' ' victory which sealed the Area 7 championship. TALLADEGA COUNTY TRAINING SCHOOL (38-8 1 and No. 2 defense com bined to limit TCTS to minus 17 yards offense as the Bulldogs closed out the regular schedule with reserves doing most of the playing and doing it well. HOKES BLUFF (35-16) The Bulldogs, remembering last year's freakish loss, executed well, hard, and tough to claim the Region 4 championship. They battled to a 35-0 lead in the 3rd quarter before allowing the Eagles their first 1st down of the evening. ELMORE COUNTY (6-14 Three fumbles (at ECHS’s 5, MHS's 24, and MHS's 40) plus a one-time-only defensive leak that allowed a 35-yd. TD-run just before intermission gave the home team Panthers the margin of victory even though Montev- allo had an edge in every other Statistic. ECHS went on from there to become the Class AA state champion. Photos this page courtesy Shelby Cc
