Text from Pages 1 - 88 of the 1988 volume:

The senior class would like to thank Mr. Hahn for everything he has done while being our advisor. Thank you for having great patience in our class meetings and at many other events where our class members could not keep their mouths shut. Again, thank you for being our advi- sor when no one else would. We really appreciate it. I We the senior class would like to thank Mr. Sveum for all the time he has put towards our class. We thank you for sitting in the gym while we were decorating for prom and for watching us carefully con- struct our floats. We would also like to give Mrs. Hahn a special thanks for showing up and helping us in concessions and at the events we were in charge of. But in the next game, Montello pulled off a conference upset over favored Cambria. The joy and elation of this big win did not last long as Montello was defeated by an upset-minded Fall River team. This loss seemed to make the year of good feeling into a not-so-satisfying year. An expected 6-2 or 5-3 year ended in a 4-4 year. The coaches would like to thank all the players and especially the seniors for their time, dedication and cooperation in making the 1987 team an enjoyable one. The F.H.A.-H.E.R.O- student organization stands for Future Home Makers of America and Home Economics related oc- cupations. This is a national vocational student organization that is part of all Home Economics Classes. Founded in 1945, the organization has involved over seven million young peo- ple and 11.000 chapters. Participation in national projects and chapter activities helps members develop skills for life — Planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making and interpersonal communication — necessary both in the home and the world of work. F.H.A is the only in-school stu- dent organization with the family as its central focus. Chap- ters dvelop programs with the recognition that everyone is a homemaker and in today's society, preparation to be a wage earner, community leader and caring family member is important to all young people. This school year four students. Michelle Harvey. Tami Kohnke. Mindi Koch. Amy Hagen and advisor. Mrs. Turner attended a national training conference cluster meeting held in Milwaukee The emphasis of the con- ference was to help youth develop leadership skills that will prepare them for active roles in their homes, schools, and community. The food service class is a new course this year. It has been busy all year preparing large quantities of food that they sold to parents, facul- ty.and students. Food ser- vice students are: J. Walters. B. Duell. T. Bowman. T. Topel. S. Schultz. T. Pfeiffer. A. G. Henry, and D Bennett. SPANISH CLUB Holiday Folk Fair. Spanish plays. Nacho night. This number is on the rise as each choir member is instructed to draft one friend into choir next year or risk being hung by their vocal cords! (Not really, but it's a thought ...) Their fall concert got great reviews and they also participated in All Conference Choir Day in early October. Besides its regularly scheduled concerts, the choir is able to take a field trip or two to attend musicals, concerts or spe- cial music events. Unfortunately, a field trip to Europe was canceled because of our inability to speak French. C'est la vie!! As their new choir director, I am enjoying myself greatly and look forward to getting more students involved in choir. Anyone who can carry a tune (if you have to use a bucket it's OK) is welcome to join us. -Lisa Utecht SWING 4 d CHOIR tr y b J I Bottom row: Wendy Spillner, Theresa Klug. I'm Dirk Hanenberg and I'm a foreign exchange student from DQsseldorf, West Germany. A lot of people asked me, Why Montello? , but I didn't have any influence on the placement. It is pretty differ- ent here. The town which I come from has about 600,000 inhabitants, and I think that it's very nice to get away from the big city. I'm here with an organization called EXPERIMENT IN INTER- NATIONAL LIVING on a scholarship-base which is paid for by the Congress and the German Bundestag (our parlia- ment). So far I have enjoyed being here and hope the same for the rest of the year in the U.S. '4 it? FLORIDA ’87 On April 8, 1987, we left for Florida at 1:30 a.m. from Milwaukee. We arrived in Orlando, Florida Airport at 11:30 a.m. Red Lopaz picked us up in his bus, and took us to Clearwater Beach, where we stayed 3 days on a beautiful beach in a 4-star hotel. On Saturday we went to Bush Gardens and then Orlando. While in Orlando we went to Walt Disney World for 3 nights. Unfortunately we had to leave Wednesday morning on the plane. When we got back, we were sad, and a lot tanner, and full of memories of our Junior class trip that we will never forget. 61 NINETEEN SPECIAL EVENTS King and Queen Kevin Campion and Sarah Pomplun Seniors Fred Machajewski and Susan Miller Juniors Kevin O'Neill and Jennifer Stimps Sophomores Neale Hunter and Michelle Harvey Freshmen Jon Mast and Brandie Harrison 63 i® 11 JUNIORS 1ST SOPHOMORES 2ND FRESHMEN 3RD SENIORS 4TH QUEEN KING: VERONICA CORSO RODNEY POLK SENIOR REPRESENTATIVES: ANN ZADJA AND KEVIN CAMPION JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVES: CATHERINE CORSO AND CHAD SELL SOPHOMORE REPRESENTATIVES: MITZI BORNICK AND GENO NAPRALLA FRESHMAN REPRESENTATIVES: ANGIE LEMPKE AND TOBY COTTER H O M E C O M N G C 0 U R T 1 9 8 7 I N M Y D R E A M S 65 Mark Kearns and Sarah Pomplun Robert Diamentis and Gretchen Polk 66 Fred Machajewski and Lori Beahm 1986 King and Queen Paul Hunter and Jeanna Willegal Prince and Princess Adam Spain and Kayland Keith 1987 King and Queen Getf Gardner and Gretchen Polk 67 1987 Prom Court A happenin' dude in a How many more months Peeee-u Best friends forever party mood, Lisa? 68 MONTELLO BEAUTY SALON 33 MAIN ST. We Love Ya Always — Becky and Carrie DEVOTING OUR ENERGY TO MAKING YOUR LIFE EASIER. 76 77 u HEAVEN IN YOUR EYES I can tell by the look in your eyes you've been hurting. You know I'll never let you down. And I’ll try anything to keep it working. You gave me time to find out what my heart was looking for. And what a feeling inside, in your eyes. I want to see your love again, in your eyes. I never want this feeling to end. It took some time to find the line. But now I realize I can see the heaven in your eyes. Can't you see I'm finding it hard to let go Of the heartaches we've been through. I never really thought I'd see this love grow, But you helped me see, now I know what my heart's been looking for. And what a feeling inside, in your eyes. I want to see your love again, in your eyes. I never want this feeling to end. It took some time to find the line. But now I realize I can see the heaven in your eyes. We've been living on the edge. Where only the strong survive. We've been living on the edge. And it's something that we just can't hide. This feeling inside, in your eyes. I want to see your love again, in your eyes. I never want this feeling to end. It took some time to find the line, But now I realize I can see the heaven in your eyes. From April of 1968 through June of 1987 those calling or visiting the office of the District Administrator of Montello Schools were greeted by the friendly personality of Mrs. Evelyn Metcalf. , Mrs. Metcalf began her employment at Montello Schools as receptionist, secretary, and bookkeeper. In 1981, a full time bookkeeper was hired to meet the increased demands of school accounting. Mrs. Metcalf's duties then involved receiving and routing all incoming phone calls to the schools, the typing of Central office correspondence, and District record keeping. During her nineteen years at Montello Schools, Mrs. Metcalf assisted three District Administrators who collecti- vely summarize her contributions as outstandingly loyal , dedicated to duty , and exceptional work record . Those qualities plus her winning smile, pleasant voice, and concern for others will be missed at Montello Schools. We all wish Mrs. Metcalf many years of happiness doing those things and going those places that time did not permit over the past nineteen years. Retirement takes her from her desk but she will always remain in our hearts. THANK YOU, MRS. METCALF!! a y « 41 K
