Cut you for a buck The guy on the right did it. Harry Food Metcalf 15 Mr. G Mrs. Bickley Sleeping Beauty On June 3, 1977 at 6:00 the Junior Class left for Florida. The first stop was in Nashville, Tennessee for breakfast and also where Dean ate a little too much. The next day traveling down to Perry, Georgia. We stayed overnight there. The next day we reached Orlando where we spent a majority of the time at the pool. Monday we finally reached Disney World. We spent the next two days there. Our next destiny was Cocoa Beach. We had planned to stay there for only approximately 1V4 days. But what we planned and what we did were two different things. The bus broke down so we stayed there an extra two nights, but that's alright though. Since we were running behind schedule we had to skip Silver Springs. On the way back we stopped at Perry, Georgia again for the night. Our last night was spent at Nashville, Tennessee. We reached Montello finally at 1:30 Monday morning. ONLY, HE NEVER KNEW, HE NEVER KNEW. THE SECRET THAT WILL UNFOLD TO NO ONE, SOMEONE WILL TELL HIM, WHEN HE GETS TO HEAVEN. BUT WE WILL NEVER TELL HIM, BECAUSE HE ISN'T COMING HOME. AS A FRIEND, WE WOULD SING ALONG. AS A BOY, HE WOULD PLAY ALONG. ALTHOUGH HE'S GONE, HE STILL LIVES WITHIN US, AND HIS LAUGHTER WILL STILL BE HEARD BY MANY EARS. UNTOUCHED BY FEAR, UNHURT BY LOVE AND DEEP WITHIN HIMSELF. Thanks Mr. Stelter Mrs. Barbara Thompson, State Superintendent, giving Certificate of Recognition to Mr. Stelter 1 'The bell has rung and you can't unring it. So says Albert R. Stelter, who this year has himself ' 'rung the bell'' to mark the end of his tenure on the Board of Education. Mr. Stelter has served as a board member 33 years, 18 of them as clerk of the Little Mecan School Board. Since 1963 he has been a member of the Montello School Board, serving as treasurer for 14. Since 1940 Stelter has devoted many hours to the work as a school board member, in addition to working 38 years as a township assessor, raising a family of 4 children, operating a dairy farm and serving on the town board and for 9 years on the Little Mecan Church Board. An avid sportsman and conservationist, he has served on the Conserva- tion Congress, acted as caretaker of the Neepee Nauk Club since 1940, and for 18 years held an office in the Mon- tello Rod and Club. When asked about changes that have most affected the Board of Education during his tenure, Mr. Stelter said a lot of local control has been lost because people no longer are able to govern themselves. Mr. Stelter feels that the biggest change has been in setting school policies because of the tremendous influence in state and federal regula- tions. The changes in the educational system have also been phenomenal, but the basics reading, writing and arithmetic — are still in style. He also emphasizes that concern for your fellow man and open-mindedness is still imperative in order to do a good job on a school board, often reminding his co-workers, ' 'He who throw's dirt loses ground. ' He said recently, ' 'We only pass this way but once, and in order for us to perform our duties and carry out our responsibilities, we must have good teachers, administrators, and board members.'' He feels that basically the children today are good, and it's important to maintain a strong unity between school, family, and church. Mr. Stelter emphasizes that the children are society's most important asset and every possible resource within reason should be made avail- able to them. He has also insisted on fiscal responsibility, however, frequently stating: If we've got to have it, we' ve got to have it but first we find out if we' ve got to have it. The School District of Montello is indeed indebted to such an outstanding individual because no task or problem has ever been too tedious or complicated for Mr. Stelter. His record speaks for itself in the areas of trustworthiness, sincerity, willingness, knowledge, and experience. Therefore, this page is being dedicated to a conscientious and understanding man who served this school district to the utmost of his ability. His presence will be greatly missed. 78 Caught in the act! Kindergarten rejects What a life! Do you get the feeling we're being watched? 79 Baby Faces Who's who: 1. Mr. Mayer, 2. Miss Schinke, 3.
