DEDICATION.............................2 SENIORS.............................4-11 CLASS TRIP........................«12-13 UNDERCLASSMEN......................16-24 ADMINISTRATION.....................26-32 ACTIVITIES.........................34-64 SENIOR ACTIVITIES..................65-67 ADVERTISEMENTS.....................68-76 SPECIAL RECOGNITION for Mr. Whirty.....................77-80 Dedication This year the yearbook is being ded- icated to a teacher which each student will have the pleasure of having before graduating from MHS. You are a very emotional coach and advisor, who earns the respect of all your 'kids'. Your students learn of your life in Randolph, your experiences as a grave digger, and your college life in both Fond du Lac and Oshkosh colleges. We also learn that even though Ramblers come, they don't always go (or else go too fast). Although the office has put a halt to your Birthday parties, Mr. Lloyd, your presence in this school will never be for- gotten. Mr. Lloyd, you are the Sunshine in our lives. 2 SENIORS p R E S I D E N T The Class Of 1977 STUDENT COUNCIL Mary Anne Kearns Jill Jaster Cindy Walters Peter Olsen 4 Brenda Barton Cathy Atkinson Joy Becker Jane Bentley Becky Brady 5 Mike Brusich Linda Cacic George Cairns Janet Davis Randall Drew Robert Drew 6 8 Cathy Koslowski Marcy Kreiser Sheryl Krist Sue Marchand 9 Tom Metcalf Angela Powless Sue Rinehart Steve Sheller Sue Smallbones Joe Spain John Wegner Dennis Werdin 11 Denise Wielgosh Kathi Wright Penny Zellmer HILTON Jr. Class Trip On June 4, 1976, 32 students left on an American Lines Bus to begin their voyage to Florida. Our first stop was in Indiana for gas and then onto Kentucky. Later we stopped for breakfast where the students were diaapp- ointed over the slow service. We pushed on until we came to Atlan- ta, Georgia, during the rush hour. It is there where we all learned the meaning of TRAFFIC JAM . Students on the bus be- came familiar with the driver's of other vehicles. Sunday, we loaded the bus and drove to Florida after our nights stay in Georgia. We stopped at Burger King, loaded the bus and didn't stop until we hit Kissimmee. This was our home for the next two days. They had a sign 'Welcome Montello High Sch- ool' waiting for us when we arrived. The next mom we had our pictures taken with it while we heard of the adventures of the armadillo. We spent the next two days at Disney World. At the end of the first day we met at the main gate to find some boys late! We left for Cocoa Beach at our second day there. We rush into our rooms to chan- ge and to go to the Ocean. Thursday morning we loaded the bus and we were on our way to Cape Canaver- al. Friday we left for Silver Springs to ride the Glass Bottom Boat. We made two more stops-at Georgia and Nashville. On our final day morning we packed up to reach Montello at 12:00... 12 Is this one NEW ? Coffee, Milk or Me? Good Morning, America Thank God, I'm a Country Girl. 31, 32, 33, 34, ... That Leads To Your Door, Will Never Disappear I've Seen That Road Before . . . 35 Homecoming 1976 hit a different note this year. On Thursday night the parade was held with the floats and rep- resentatives. After this the students along with the faculty and some alumni came to the athletic field to watch and participate in Stunt Night. No bonfire was held due to the dry weather. The stunts were a water balloon con- test, obstacle race, pyramid contest, car loading contest, and the Banana Ea- ting Contest. Mr. Jack Whirry not only has been and still is Mr. Vo-ag Teacher -- Mr. Community Minded Citizen , but also an outstanding parent and husband. To do justice to describe the many accomplishments of Mr. Whirry during his 33 years at Montello High School would require the assistance of hundreds of people to contribute the information. Mr. Whirry was bom and raised on a farm in the Montello area. He graduated from the U. of W. - Madison in Ag. Education in 1940, taught Vo-ag at Fish Creek, Wis. for 3 years and then came back to Montello in 1943. At first he taught half days at Endeavor and half days at Montello. This consisted of 4 Vo-ag classes, shop classes, operating a milk testing program for students testing their dairy herds, night classes for adult farmers, coaching track for a few years, plus operating the time clock for every high school basketball game for at least 25 years. Mr. Whirry also was the Junior Class Advisor for many years. One of the reasons for this being that he was the only person in school who would climb the ladder to the top of the gym to fasten the prom decorations. To be involved in community activities was and still is a must for Mr. Whirry. This includes being very active in church, a past Boy Scout leader for many years, a bank director, instigator of many community improvement projects with his Vo-ag classes plus being very active in the sports of bowling, hunting, and fishing. Being a successful Vo-ag teacher is not just measured by winning judging teams, but by a combina- tion of factors that help influence and improve many peoples lives. On the following pages are pictures of only a few of the highlights of Mr. Whirry's career at Montello. 77 A fullview of the trophy case that contains many of the awards that Mr. Whirry coached judging teams have won Mr. Whirry has always had his Vo-Ag classes involved in community service projects. 1949-Seed treating and cleaning done for local farmers. 1973-The BOAC class builds many types of signs. Above is an example of one of the many sign projects. 1956-F.F.A. Banquet, The harmonica player not only is good, but also works very cheap. 1976-The BCAC class laying sod in front of the new high school. 78 1951-National Gold Medal Poultry Judging Team. 1964-The National Champion Poultry Judging Team. 1976-This team won 2nd in the State and will go to Oklahoma to represent Wisconsin the the National Contest in May of 1977. (Soils Team) 79 Honors And Awards 1963-Mr. Whirry receiving one of the top F.F.A. Awards, the Honorary American Farmer Degree. 1962-Montello F.F.A's 1st 25 years. The majority of these awards were won by Mr. Whirry Coached teams. 1964-Mr. Whirry receiving the Vo-Ag Teacher of the Year Award for the State of Wisconsin.
