The dedication of the field by Governor Knowles and a complete winning streak by our football team made the field a new asset to the school and the community. 'V IV It is with appreciation for your sincere interest in us, that we, the students of Montello High School dedicate this'Hilltopper to you, Mr. Klug. We thank you for the gift of laughter that is so much a part of your life. A day is not quite com- pleted without a touch of your wit and sense of humor. We thank you for the time you have spent coaching the various teams. Through your efforts, these teams have improved and, as a result, our school pride and enthusiasm has increased. We thank you for sharing with us your know- ledge of History and Economics. Your sparkling lectures have helped to bring the events of the past to life, and make the present events more understandable. Your faith in us as students has caused us to strive for greater achievements in life. Our sincere hope is that your deep dedication to the teaching profession and to youth will some- day bring you the happiness you so well deserve. 8 Science The Science department has been expanded this year with the addition of Earth Science and Advanced Science. Advanced Science is a college prep course and consists of three units of study: organic chemistry, calculating general chemistry problems and an introduction to Semimicro Qualitative Analysis. Earth Science investigates the basics of geology. Chemistry and Physics courses consists of three one-hour lecture periods and two two-hour experimentation periods a week. This gives the students an opportunity to explore basic concepts of sciences more fully. Other courses include biology and general science. English English, required for all students, covers the various areas of prose, poetry, drama, American and English literature, and many others. The freshman and sophomore classes are taught by Mrs. Tanner. Mr. Sveum teaches one junior English class, while Mrs. Schwitz instructs all other junior, senior, and college prep English. 10 French The French classes are taught by Miss Beilin. Four years of French are available, and are recommended for college bound students. Besides learning the language, the students also study the history of France, its’ people and their way of life. 11 Home Economics And Family Living Home Ec is designed for girls inter- ested in the areas of homemaking -- cook- ing, sewing, and child care. The course is taught by Mrs. Berndt. In addition to Home Ec. Family Livingis also being offered this year. This course is available for senior girls interested in studying the various situations encountered in marriage and in raising a family. Advisor Mrs. Berndt, Sandy Smith, Jean Wegenke, Linda Schwochert, Lori Rief, Marci Welke, Sue Stollfus, and Kathy Golz. These seven girls represented the Montello High School Home Ec. Dept, in the 1968 Make It Yourself With Wool Contest. Math And Drafting The Math department instructed by Mr. Schrab, included courses in Algebra 1 and II based on mathematical ideas and Geometry dealing with the use of induction and intuition. All of these basics are com- bined in Advanced Math, offered to seniors who are college bound. Drafting consisting of Mechanical and Architectual drawing two of the newer courses being taught deals with the funda- mentals of machine parts and a complete set of home plans. Mr. Haase is the in- structor. Social Science Our Social Science courses taught by Mr. Tanner, Mr. Klug and Miss Beilin are World History, Geography, Social Studies, U. S. History, and Social Problems. These courses cover our nation and other nations history; helps us to understand other areas of the world; and, gives us a fundamental understanding of economics. 14 Commercial The commercial course, taught by Mrs. Klug and Mr. Mannausau consists of General Business, Typing I, Typing II, Shorthand, Office Practice, and Bookkeeping. They are designed to help those interested in future clerical work or those who intend on going on to school where typing and stenographic skills are required. Band And Art Our Band instructor this year is Mr. Churchill. He instructs Junior Cadet and Senior Cadet Band. He also gives lessons during the day. The Art classes are taught by Mrs. Zieman. She teaches two high school classes and the rest grade school. Much of the Art classes work can be seen displayed around the school. 16 Physical Education Mrs. Klug teaches Girls' Physical Edu- cation. This course consists of sections on archery, touch-football, basketball, vol- leyball, badminton, shuffle-board, ping pong, golf, baseball, and tennis. This course exposes girls to a variety of activi- ties. Mr. Lueder is the Boys' Physical Edu- cation instructor. Through this course the boys acquire skills in football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and soccer. 17 Shop And 11 y y Ag The shop instructor this year is Mr. Haase. His class is making tables and wooden cats, and learning how to re- finish cars. Mr. Whirry instructs the Ag class. His boys, who have been National Winners for many years, are again study- ing for State Competition. The victorious celebration in- cluded a colorful parade, a pep rally, and the traditional Home- coming Dance. The theme was Greenfields Are Gone. But by far, the most exciting event was the football game it- self. The Hilltoppers displayed great power, and as a result, they not only won a Homecoming Victory, but they claimed the Dual-County Conference Cham- pionship as well. Rome Adventure Tall, stately, white pillars draped with vines roses em- phasized the 1968 Prom theme Rome Adventure. Lynch, M. Farrell. We, the 1968 football team, wish to pay tribute to our great coach, Mr. Lueder. When he arrived here in 1963, he made a promise that at that time seemed to us almost impos- sible to accomplish - -a football championship in 5 years. His desire was instilled into the players and resulted in the 1968 Conference Championship. He stood by us through the years of disappointment and defeat. He didn't turn his back, but showed understanding and warmth that gained the respect of everyone. We wish him continued success and hap- piness in everything he does.
